Polishing paste is usually an abrasive mixture, which includes micropowders and binders of solid or ointment consistency. You can consider the properties and features of this material.
Key Features
Polishing paste can belong to one of two groups: water-based, fat-free or fatty. The non-abrasive part of the fatty compositions includes fatty acids, paraffin, oils and other components, that is, those that are not washed off with water under normal conditions. Such pastes are easily removed with a dry clean cloth at the final stage of polishing work. However, it is better to first test on a small surface area how well they are removed.
Features
Often the abrasive part is decisive for the scope of the composition and its name. When micropowder of cubic boron nitride is included in the composition, the polishing paste is called cubanite or elboric. In diamond compositions, there are diamond powders of artificial or natural origin. In addition to powders, pastes usually containinclude surfactants, fats, binders and others. They are applied in a thin layer on the used polishing tool. It is customary to distinguish between pastes and for their intended purpose: for polishing non-ferrous metals, hardened steels and other materials.
Polishing paste must meet certain requirements:
- guarantee a smooth surface with a mirror finish;
- be sufficiently strong and tough, and have a uniform composition;
- keep high quality on the working surface of the polishing wheel;
- do not crumble or crumble, do not scratch or contaminate the surface being treated.
Abrasive polishing paste
The aggressiveness of additives often depends on where the compound is to be applied. In such processes as milling, turning, metal drawing, as well as similar ones, relatively unstable joints can be used, because corrosion in this case plays an insignificant role. However, ultra-fine abrasive lapping can cause increased chemical corrosion.
A bunch of paste is selected depending on the operation for which it is designed. The paste bundle includes active additives - stearic and oleic fatty acids, as well as a fatty base. A certain hardness of the composition is achieved by adding paraffin. Stearic and oleic acids can be called as the main chemical reagents that contribute to the activation of the finishing process.
Pastapolishing, the price of which is from 1000 rubles (depending on the purpose), includes non-abrasive components that play the role of a bundle in it. The composition of the bond usually includes special intensifiers that prevent increased consumption and increase the utilization of the cutting properties of abrasive grains. With light pressure, they melt well only in the cutting zone, holding on to the circle.
Polishing paste often contains dielectrics that increase its performance.
