The history of the development of any state is inextricably linked with the origin and development of cash coins. They can tell not only about the economy and politics of certain years, but also about the life, culture and customs of people.
History of Armenian banknotes
Armenian coins begin their history during the reign of Sophena - III century BC. It was with her that the first copper coins appeared. During the reign of Tigran the Great, the minting of copper coins (khalk) and silver coins (drachms, tetradrachms) began. Armenian and Syrian mints were engaged in production.
During the reign of the Artashesids, coins were issued, which were divided into state and city. During excavations, money from the city of Artashat was found, which dates back to the beginning of the 1st century AD
A drachma made of silver weighed 4.36 g. No one weighed money made of copper. Their shape cannot be called perfectly round, because they were minted by hand.
The first mention of the Yerevan mint is found on banknotes that were in circulation of the Tatar-Mongols. In the period from the 19th century until the revolution, money was only paper money.

The Yerevan branch of the State Bank in 1919 issues checks called temporary. In 1920, the first banknotes printed in England appeared.
New coins of Armenia appeared in circulation when it became a republic within the USSR. After the formation of the Transcaucasian Federative Union until 1924, banknotes from 1 thousand to 1 billion rubles appeared. In 1924, Armenia became part of the USSR, and the money was the same pattern for 70 years.
