B altic Shipyard is located in St. Petersburg on Vasilyevsky Island. The company is part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation and one of the most powerful Russian shipyards.
History
After the defeat in the Crimean War, it became clear that in order to maintain the status of a great naval power, Russia needs a large-scale reorganization of the navy and shipbuilding. Private investors have joined the processes. In 1865, the merchant of the 1st guild Matvey Karr and the engineer Mark McPherson founded a new shipbuilding complex, where foundry, mechanical work was carried out.
In 1874, the company became the property of English shareholders. Three years later, the company receives a new name - "Russian B altic Railway Society". In 1894, the treasury bought the plant for the Naval Ministry, the enterprise began to fulfill government orders, which made the company a leader.industry.
The main specialization of the plant was the construction of metal ships for the Russian fleet, in addition to the main specialization, steam engines and various ship mechanisms were produced in the workshops of the plant. The first domestic submarine was built at the shipyards of the B altic Shipbuilding Plant. Ivan Alexandrovsky became the designer and engineer for the development of a new type of weapon for Russia. In 1862, the armored gunboat “Experience” left the docks of the plant, becoming the first Russian ship built entirely of metal.
Development and serial production
In the second half of the 19th century, the ship "Admiral Lazarev" was built at the B altic Shipyard, it became the first armored vessel designed for the coast guard, it served in the fleet for 40 years. Its successful release and testing opened the era of serial production of armored ships equipped with weapons and equipment of domestic production. In 1877, the B altic shipyards produced the first steam engine, its power was 5300 horsepower.
Shipbuilding enterprise "B altiysky Zavod" became a pioneer in establishing the serial production of ships, submarines were not inferior in performance to Western and European models of such weapons. At the beginning of the 20th century, the company produced the first Russian dreadnoughts Petropavlovsk and Sevastopol. In 1900, the "Diving Department" was formed at the enterprise, which was engaged in the design, development and repair of submarines. By 1938year, the department was reorganized by the Rubin Central Design Bureau.
After the revolution
In 1917, the battlecruisers Izmail and Kinburn remained unfinished at the plant, the ships were already afloat, only revision remained, but due to the lack of funding, it was not possible to complete the work. The vessel was transferred for storage to the port of St. Petersburg. In 1923, the Kinburn ship was sold to Germany as scrap metal. Partial funding resumed in the early 1920s. By 1928, the cruiser Svetlana, which received the new name Profintern, was being completed at the B altic Shipyard.
In January 1925, four ships of Soviet Russia were laid down at the shipyards of the plant - timber carriers "Comrade Stalin", they entered service in 1927. In 1925, the production of domestic mainline diesel locomotives was launched; machines of a similar design have not yet been produced anywhere. By 1931, 4 largest passenger ships were launched, capable of carrying up to 960 passengers and 100 tons of cargo. The ships were intended to work on the Black Sea lines.
From 1927 to 1931, the plant produced three submarines that were world famous. The boat "Decembrist" became the first submarine of the Soviet Union, the ship "Narodovolets" is known as the first ship that became an exhibit of the museum. The greatest number of achievements fell on the share of the Krasnogvardeets boat - it took part in the Great Patriotic War, was the first to sail under the ice of the Arctic and the first to make a trip to the Western Hemisphere of the Earth.
To the beginning of the GreatWorld War II, the enterprise developed, designed and built many ships for the Soviet Navy, for which in 1940 the enterprise was awarded the Order of Lenin, noting the merits of the plant in strengthening the country's defense capability.
War and Peacetime
During the period of hostilities, the B altic Shipyard worked for the needs of the front, in the shops they repaired ships, produced ammunition, built minesweepers, as well as barges and tenders for the Road of Life on Ladoga. Half of the workforce went to the front.
At the end of hostilities, the plant mastered the production of civilian products - cargo and passenger ships, tankers, bulk carriers, icebreakers, ships for research activities.
Achievements
From 1971 to 1975, the nuclear-powered icebreaker Arktika was built at the B altic Shipbuilding Plant, which became the largest ship of this type at that time. This handsome ship got the world palm in reaching the North Pole by surface water. By 1992, several second-generation nuclear-powered icebreakers had been built at the enterprise, the series was opened by the Rossiya ship launched in 1985.
In 2007, the construction of the largest nuclear-powered icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy" with a displacement of 20 thousand tons and 14 decks was completed. To this day, it remains the only one of its kind. In the 80s, the plant mastered the construction of nuclear missile cruisers of project 1144. Four ships of this type were produced, the last one, Peter the Great, launchedon water in 1998, has no analogues in the world so far.
Modernity
By 2009, the B altic Shipbuilding Plant produced two diesel-electric icebreakers "St. Petersburg" and "Moskva". In 2009, the company began construction of a unique facility - the floating nuclear power plant "Akademik Lomonosov", the project has no analogues in the world practice of shipbuilding. The capacity of the first floating nuclear power plant is 70 MW, the service life without fuel replacement is 10 years, the displacement is 21.5 thousand tons, the crew is 69 specialists. The station is capable of generating energy for a city with a population of 200 thousand people.
FNPP also has equipment for water desalination (240 thousand cubic meters per day). In April 2018, the station began to be towed to its location. At the first stage, it will be moored in Murmansk, where fuel will be loaded into nuclear installations, after which the floating nuclear power plant will go to its permanent base - to the city of Pevek. Testing of the station and its commissioning are scheduled for autumn 2019.
Over the history of the enterprise, more than 600 military ships and many unique ships have been built here, which makes the plant an industry leader in the use of high technologies.

Reviews
More than 6 thousand people make up the staff of the B altic Shipyard. Reviews of employees with positive reviews talk about timely wages, delays happen, but are not systemic. Wages are calculated in accordance with the Labor Code and include all necessary taxes and payments. Employees indicated that in most cases the local team is friendly, they can get advice and you can count on mutual assistance.
Vacancies at the B altic Shipbuilding Plant are mainly open to blue-collar workers. The fact that employees are constantly required indicates a high level of staff turnover. As it turned out, not everything is so simple. Applicants apply to the personnel department often, no less often receive a positive response and begin paperwork. Sometimes the whole process takes about two weeks, but at the time of issuing a pass to the plant, the personnel department catches on and refuses to get a job. It is impossible to get an answer why the decision has changed, no one gives answers.
Some refused the vacancy of the B altic shipbuilding plant in St. Petersburg at the stage of signing an employment contract. It is not uncommon for a candidate to be offered a high salary at an interview, but in the contract it is reduced by a very decent amount. Candidates felt that human resources management is incompetent or that such deception is company policy, hard to believe.
Former employees note that the company is not doing well with the provision of tools and equipment for work, but at the same time no one reduces the production rate, even if it is impossible to do the work without certain devices. Many brought their instruments, hoping for bonus deductions. With additional remuneration, the situation is tight - workers are not awarded bonuses either for overtime or for work in harmful conditions. Employees believe that the reason for this is the accrual system, in which the main role is assigned to site foremen, they prefer to reward only themselves.
