Sign "Slow vehicle": characteristics, placement, legal regulation

Many road signs cause difficulties for both novice and experienced drivers. One of them can be safely called the sign "Slow-moving vehicle". In this article, we will analyze in detail both it and the vehicles that can be marked by it, as well as the rules for overtaking such vehicles.

Sign description

The sign "Slow-moving vehicle", the photo of which you can see in this article, complies with the conditions of UNECE regulations No. 69-01 (with amendment 01). The kit consists of one panel used as an identification rear badge. It is usually made of aluminum, but can also be presented in the form of a self-adhesive film, as well as plates with a PVC backing.

Appearance - an equilateral triangle of red or orange hue with a yellow (sometimes red) border, the corners of which are cut off. The basis of the badge is necessarily fluorescent, and the border is reflective.

Notation sizes

Sign "Slow-moving vehicle" dimensions of the sides of a regular (in other words, equilateral) triangle has the following: 350-365 mm. It is important that the parameters of not only the designation itself, but also its edging comply with state standards. So, for the border of the "Slow-moving vehicle" sign, the dimensions according to GOST are the allowable width within 45-48 mm. Let's move on to the rules of installation and fastening.

The sign "Slow-moving vehicle" is placed in such a way that all its characteristics must be preserved with minimal concessions - it is only allowed to cover no more than 10% of its surface with non-removable structural parts of the vehicle. During the operation of the low-speed device, it is necessary to prevent the impact on the identification triangle of manufacturing and design defects.

Fastening, respectively, must be strong and static - it is allowed to use rivets, screws, special double-sided tape. It is important to provide easy access to the outer surface of the sign - to periodically clean it from contamination.

Accommodation and location

When placing a sign, be sure to set it strictly with one of the sides of the triangle up. In relation to the transverse vertical beam - only at an angle of 90 degrees to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle. Allow deviation within 5 degrees.

Designation must be presented only in the singularand be located on the side of transport (right or left) that is opposite to the direction of traffic in this country.

The lower level of the symbol must be at least 25 mm above the ground, and the upper level must be no more than 150 cm above it.

Legal Regulations

The sign must be installed behind all mechanical vehicles, for which its manufacturer has determined the highest speed that does not exceed 30 km/h.

The "Slow Vehicle" sign is reflected in the following legal documents:

• Techno-Regulation of the Customs Union 018/2011. Vehicles belonging to categories M, N, O, the highest design speed of which is not more than 40 km / h, must be distinguished by this designation.
• FZ RF No. 77. Regulation of fines for drivers of slow-moving vehicles.
• SDA 11.6. The rules prescribe in conditions when it is difficult or impossible to overtake a device equipped with the "Slow-moving vehicle" sign, the driver of this device should keep to the right or even stop, if necessary, to skip the following high-speed vehicles.
• Code of Administrative Violations (Art. 12.15, part 1, paragraph 1.1). The introduction of a fine for the owner of a low-speed vehicle (driving less than 30 km/h), who did not provide the driver of a faster vehicle with the opportunity to overtake, in the amount of 1-1.5 thousand rubles.
• CAO RF (Article 12.15). In the spring of 2017, another pen alty was introduced for managers of slow-moving vehicles -500 rubles for driving without identification.

Polysemy of the concept

When passing the theoretical part of the driver's license exam, many people make the mistake of choosing the wrong slow-moving agent in the test. Relying on intuition, future drivers include here vehicles that, logically, cannot reach high speed - a bicycle, a horse-drawn cart, a tractor. However, in some tests, this question is somewhat tricky: the photo for the task depicts a racing bike, sports competitions involving horse-drawn carts, etc. So what to choose?

The issue is solved very simply. Only those vehicles that have the appropriate sign can be considered slow-moving. Without it, even a tricycle and an antediluvian cart cannot be called a slow-moving vehicle.

SDA and low-speed vehicles

Point No. 11 of the Russian traffic rules strictly prohibits overtaking slow-moving vehicles on the following sections of the road:

• Controlled (with traffic lights) intersections.
• Unregulated intersections when driving on a non-main road.
• Railway crossings, as well as sections at a distance of no more than 100 m from them.
• T/S in front of you makes a detour or overtake.
• Bridges, overpasses, tunnels, overpasses and sections of the route under them.
• The vehicle following you starts overtaking.
• Dangerous curves, slope ends, low visibility areas.
• After completing the overtaking, you will not be able to without creating a dangerous situation or obstructing the roadget back into the lane.

Sign 3.20 "Detour, overtaking prohibited" does not allow overtaking all vehicles, except slow-moving vehicles - bicycles, mopeds, horse-drawn vehicles, two-wheeled motorcycles, which not only move at less than 30 km/h, but also have an identification bordered triangle. With a solid line (designation 1.1, 1.11), even a low-speed vehicle cannot be overtaken.
