Shipyard "Avangard" is a large industrial enterprise in Karelia, which carries out large-scale orders for civil and military shipbuilding, is also engaged in the generation of thermal energy, ship repair, modernization and repair of railway equipment and wagons. The plant is located on the shores of Lake Onega, having the ability to receive ships to its own mooring wall. The enterprise has direct access to the B altic, White, Black and Caspian Seas via the Volga-B altic and White Sea-B altic canals.
History
In fact, the Avangard shipyard appeared back in 1939, when all of Europe lived in anticipation of a possible war. Various types of weapons were developed, including the active development of torpedoes. The government has decided toconstruction of torpedo sighting stations.
In the north, work on the creation of a TPS began in the area of Petrozavodsk Bay. Already by 1941, a 172-meter embankment, buildings of three workshops, and its own garage appeared here. A motorway, railway lines, drinking water supply were brought to the plant. In fact, it was a large-scale industrial cluster, but they did not manage to develop it to the end, since the war began.
Returned to the project immediately after the end of the Great Patriotic War. It was then that the official history of production at the Avangard shipyard began here.
Famous ships
Several dozen ships have been launched over the past years, some of them should be told separately.
In 1947, the first fishing boats, made as part of the Albatross project, rolled off the stocks. They were stable and unpretentious in operation. In fact, it was these small fishing boats that supplied the entire country with fish immediately after the war.
In 1954, a new stage began in the history of the Avangard shipyard. Here they began to produce small fishing seiners. 20-meter ships were soon sent to the Far East. At a time when the country was led by Nikita Khrushchev, who was not indifferent to agriculture, the production of mini-dry cargo ships of the Kolkhoz Woman project began at the enterprise. These were small ships that could carry up to 22 and a half tons of cargo. They could work in shallow water, even enter small and narrow rivers.
Among other famous projects are rescueboats for the world's first icebreaker "Lenin", ambulance and crew boats, floating cranes, refrigerated trawlers.
Product launch
Now let's talk in more detail about the products that were produced at this enterprise. After the Great Patriotic War, they started repairing and manufacturing minesweepers. These were special-purpose ships that performed the task of searching, detecting and destroying sea mines. They also escorted other ships and ships through minefields. In a number of states, they are the basis of the mine-sweeping forces of the navy.
The plant also organized the production of small self-propelled dry cargo ships, fishing vessels, boats and yachts.
An important step was the launch of the vessels of the Albatross project, which were intended for fishing in the Barents and White Seas. They were put into mass production in 1947.
Over the next two decades, ambulances and crew boats, lifeboats, fishing boats, river sirens, sea buoys, tricolor lights, winches, tower cranes, oil tanks, flow generators, sprinklers were massively built.
In 1954, mass production of small all-metal fishing seiners was launched, which were engaged in fishing in the seas of the Far East.
At the end of the 50s, a large series of small dry cargo ships of the Kolkhoz Woman project, which we have already talked about in this article, began to be built. Their demand was so high that almost two were produced in total.thousands of ships. From the mid-60s to the mid-70s, refrigerated trawlers of the Karelia type were mass-produced. In total, more than a hundred of these ships were built.
In 1976, the construction of cargo ships of the Kizhi project began. In 1977, the construction of small refrigerated fishing trawlers of the "Palanga" project, cargo and passenger ships "Kolos" began.
It is noteworthy that since the mid-1950s, the company has somewhat reoriented itself, starting to produce non-core products for itself as well. These are kitchen furniture, sporting goods, garden houses, furniture sets "Beryozka", the first in the history of domestic shipbuilding fiberglass pleasure yachts "Assol", pleasure boats "Beryozka", "Karelia", "Kefal", mini-dinghies "Junior". For a while, there was even a temporary repair of trolleybuses.
Stages of formation
During its history, the company has changed many names. Initially, it was a torpedo sighting station, which was called the "Northern Point". It was founded on the basis of the plant back in 1938.
In 1939, "Northern Point" became a machine-building enterprise. During the Great Patriotic War, the plant carried out defense orders, so it had only serial numbers - first 375, and then 789. In the 60s, the enterprise carried out secret military orders, it was not officially called anything, passing everywhere as mailbox No. 14.
In 1966, the company hada large number of civilian orders, the number of defense projects decreased, the plant ceased to be so secret, becoming in official documents as the Avangard machine-building enterprise. It became a shipyard in 1972.
In modern Russia
In the 90s, a new era began in the fate of the state enterprise. It became Avangard Shipbuilding Plant OJSC. The history of survival at that time was not easy, as the armed forces were falling apart along with the whole country.
Fortunately, by the beginning of the 90s, the company still had unfinished orders for three minesweepers, but in difficult times, the Ministry of Defense nevertheless refused them, deciding to send the ships for scrap. Now such solutions look especially surprising, given that one of them was more than 90 percent complete, with almost all the necessary weapons installed.
Then the management of the plant took a bold step, selling it on their own, and paid salaries to employees with the proceeds.
Shipyard "Avangard" for a long time tried to survive, being actually at the stage of bankruptcy. At the same time, some experts believed that it was deliberately and deliberately destroyed, intending to sell rare equipment. Despite the problems and the complete lack of prospects, in 2009 the company still celebrated its 70th anniversary.
Orion
Today at the baseThe Avangard shipbuilding plant has a limited liability company Orion Ekranoplane Construction Association. It has existed since 2011. It was decided to organize the launch of ekranoplanes for the needs of the Federal Security Service. Foreign orders have already appeared. In particular, from Iran.
The Center has developed two models for military and civilian purposes. One can accommodate 12 people and one ton of cargo, and the second - 30 crew members and 30 tons of cargo.
Initially, only 32 people worked here, most of whom were reserve officers from the disbanded fighter aviation regiment. It is noteworthy that among them were pilots who had previously flown fighters, and now became test pilots of ekranoplanes. The backbone of the enterprise team was made up of specialists in engineering and technical professions.
Despite the fact that the assembly of ekranoplanes was carried out in Petrozavodsk, the head design base remained in Moscow. Production of parts, assembly and testing of machines was organized on the basis of Avangard.
Ekranoplan, the production of which was quickly established here, is a special dynamic hovercraft that flies at a relatively short distance of a few meters above the ground, water, ice or snow. It is noteworthy that at equal speeds and mass, the area of \u200b\u200bits wing is much smaller than that of an aircraft. At the same time, according to the international classification, ekranoplanes belong to sea vessels.
Their development was initially actively carried out during the Soviet Union. At the same time, the mostwell-known Soviet ekranoplanes were the strike missile carrier Lun, the transport and landing Orlyonok, experimental under the name Caspian Monster. When the Soviet Union collapsed, the development of ekranoplanes almost completely stopped. But in recent years, interest in ekranoplane construction has begun to revive.
Some samples have already been sent to Iran. In the Caspian Sea, they are planned to be used for rescue operations, transportation of goods and transportation of people. Ekranoplanes have the ability to accelerate to a speed of 220 kilometers per hour, while they can carry one ton of cargo over a distance of 600 kilometers. Interest in these products began to show private customers from other countries. The company notes that ekranoplans are considered piece goods, since there is no state order for them. Ekranoplans are capable of transporting people, mail and cargo to hard-to-reach places. In addition, they show high efficiency in eliminating the consequences of man-made and natural disasters.
In 2016, it became known that the company acquired several more workshops of the plant in order to expand production. At the same time, the Avangard plant itself, which actually went bankrupt in 2010, recovered in 2016, slowly starting to establish production, although the pace was not comparable to those that were during the Soviet Union.
