How to grow a good crop of onions

From late February to March 10, sow seeds in a box. Preliminary treatment is carried out for fungal diseases: wrap the seeds in a cloth and dip them in hot water for 15 minutes (50 degrees Celsius), then in cold water for 1 minute. You need to soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours. After a day, drain the water and hold the seeds for the same amount in a damp cloth, preventing it from drying out. Prepare the soil for seedlings from the soil from the cucumber bed. Sowing in grooves with a depth of 1-2 cm in depth. The distance between the grooves should be 2 cm. Sprinkle the seeds with well-decomposed humus, carefully water, without washing away the soil with a jet. Cover with foil and put in a warm place. Shoots will appear in about 7-10 days. Move the crate to a sunny windowsill. Temperature regime in the first week for survival: 22 degrees during the day, at night - 15-17.
In the second week, lower the temperature to 10 degrees for 7 days, moving the box to a cool place so that the seedlings do not stretch. After 2 weeks, feed with infusion of mullein. Watering is moderate, once every 3-4 days, preventing the soil from drying out. Transplant to do in cloudy weather in the evening after the disappearance of the threat of frost. Seedling age 55-60 days.
A bed for onions has been prepared since autumn. This is a well-humused soil in a dry sunny place (after cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, legumes). Water the bed, draw a furrow with a peg through 20 cm deep 2 cm. Water the seedlings in the box the day before. Carefully taking out the plants, cut off the rhizomes, leaving them for 2,5 cm. It would be nice to dip the bottom in a mash of clay and humus. Shorten the stems by 1/3 as well. Planting depth - 1 cm more than in the box.
After planting, carefully water the bed with warm water. Cover with lutrasil for rooting time (about a week). Further care: watering, 2 top dressings in June with mullein infusion per season, pest and weed control, row spacing loosening, thinning (as needed). Since July, onions have not been watered or fed. Removed when lodging pen. Do not cut off the stems - the onion ripens. Dry in a draught. For storage, select heads with a well-dried neck. You can cut it crosswise for better drying.
