A brief history of umbrellas: from antiquity to the present day

In addition to protection from the rain, many often use an umbrella, hiding from the scorching sun. It turns out that the first umbrellas, which were invented back in the tenth century BC, were intended for this. Ancient images of Chinese mandarins with original devices above their heads date back to approximately this time. Knitting needles and a cane were made of bamboo, and the “dome” was made of thick paper, feathers or palm leaves, impregnated with a special compound. In ancient Egypt, umbrellas were used exclusively by pharaohs to protect themselves from the sun. Gradually, this household item became a symbol of the power of rich and noble people, oftenadorned with precious stones and gold. Umbrella repairs were trusted only to close associates.

But over time, the privileged position of the umbrella is lost, and it becomes available to many. In Europe, they appeared in the 17th century, turning into a fashion accessory. Those who could not afford to buy this luxury item rented it. And only in the XVIII century the umbrella began to be used as protection from rain and wind. At the same time, the masters are trying to improve it in every possible way, inventing a folding version.

In our time, there are also new ideas related to umbrellas. Recently, a new model was developed in the USA, in the handle of which a weather receiver was placed, informing with a flashing light about a possible change in the weather and the approach of precipitation. So the first umbrellas made of palm and feathers gradually turned into “miracles of technology.”

Easy repair of umbrellas at home

By the way, in the most technically advanced country in Japan, cheap umbrellas are mostly disposable. We are used to using things for quite a long time.

Therefore, many had to carry out minor repairs to the umbrella at home with their own hands. What are the small breakdowns and how to fix them?

• Repair fabric. When tearing off the fabric from the end of the needle, take a thread of a suitable color, folded several times. Then fasten the fabric by threading the needle through the hole, but not too tight.
• Small holes in the dome, formed from broken knitting needles, cover with a fabric of a suitable color,using BF-6 glue. Strengthen weak scuffs by smearing the back of the umbrella with colorless nail polish.
• It is more difficult to repair umbrellas if the spokes are broken. They can be replaced using spare parts from completely failed. Keep in mind that the size of the spokes must match the desired one, otherwise the umbrella will not fold. You can also try cutting a "reserve" out of wire.

Repair of an automatic umbrella, namely, broken rods, a power spring, a latch, is difficult to carry out at home, since certain skills are required and special spare parts and tools will be needed. Therefore, it is better to contact the workshop.
