A year later, in 1996, commemorative coins of Ukraine were minted, dedicated to the poetess Lesya Ukrainka, Mikhail Grushevsky, the 50th anniversary of the UN, the tenth anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the centenary of the modern Olympic Games.
After some time, the National Bank of Ukraine started issuing a series of coins made of precious metals. For example, silver in honor of the United Nations worth two million karbovanets. A jubilee gold coin in honor of Taras Grigoryevich Shevchenko in denomination of 200 hryvnias was issued in 1997. But the coin, minted on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is one of the most expensive issued during the existence of an independent Ukrainian state.
For 25 years, the National Bank has issued many wonderful commemorative and anniversary coins of Ukraine. They are dedicated to the independence of the country, the memory of the victims of the Holodomor of the thirties of the last century, and the one hundred and fifty-fifth anniversary of the Astronomical Observatory. In addition, coins dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of Ukraine were minted.
