The Middle Market is one of the most famous markets in Nizhny Novgorod. It is located in the historical part of the city near the largest shopping centers, famous not only for folk goods, but also for the most delicious shawarma. Most recently, the bazaar building was restored, and on December 4, 2018, a new Middle Market was opened in Nizhny Novgorod.

A bit of history

Despite its modern style, the Sredny Market in Nizhny Novgorod still retains city traditions. The local flavor is also preserved. The name, according to the widespread version, was chosen in honor of Wednesday - the market day. The market began to work at the end of the 19th century on the site of the current Gorky Square. After its improvement, it was moved to Belinsky Street.

Busy trade went on here all year round, and horse fairs were held in winter. The middle market in Nizhny Novgorod became a gathering place for horse lovers, where competitions were held, animals were tried onplayfulness.

In Soviet times, representatives of different countries came to the bazaar: Ukraine, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus and others to present their goods to the residents of the city. Now the market has retained its historical place and name, only it has a modern style.

Since December 2018, on the second floor of the Middle Market, the Samurai cafe with Japanese and European cuisine, the Cat's House pet store and the fish pavilion, where you can buy fresh and frozen products, have been opened. It also sells clothes and shoes, household goods, and building materials malls are expected to open soon.

Another huge plus of the market is free WiFi, which cannot but please both visitors and employees.

Legendary Shawarma

You can buy it not in the new building of the market, but a little further away, where there are still old shopping arcades on Kostina Street, 13 (across the road on the same side). The appearance of the bazaar changes, but the taste and quality of the food remain unchanged.

Near the Middle Market there are large educational institutions of the city and many students go to the market for shawarma, especially since the price for it is quite low (150 rubles). This is a very good way to save on lunch and have a delicious, satisfying meal.

If you have just arrived in Nizhny Novgorod, the "Middle Market" stop is exactly the place where you need to follow. The bazaar is located in the Sovetsky district on Belinsky Street, 26, next to the largest shopping center "Nebo". The entrance is located just opposite the bus stop.

The market starts at 8 am and closes at 20:00 Moscow time. On Mondays, food stalls are closed due to a sanitary day.
