Hundreds of new loanwords have appeared in the Russian language over the past twenty years. They belong to different spheres of life, creativity, production, trade. In the latter, over several decades, there have been dramatic changes not only in technology, but also in terminology. It is simply impossible to list all the new words, their meaning and meaning in one article. But we did not set such a task for ourselves. This note was written with the aim of explaining what a retailer is. The first use of this English-language term is seen at the beginning of the 21st century. A retailer is a businessman, entrepreneur or company engaged in retail trade through the establishment and distribution of a network of outlets, united by certain characteristics. Such features include a range of products directed to a specific target customer, a common central management, a common logistics network, and characteristic production technologies.

Unlike our country, in the countries of Western Europe, retail chains have existed since the beginning of the 20th century. By themselves, they are quite diverse. Assortment andproduct type, sales policy, organization and management. In the West, most often a retailer is a network that has a classic look, called a department store. The assortment and nomenclature of such outlets includes products, household goods, cosmetics, garden tools, and sometimes furniture. Often on the territory of such stores there are cafes, coffee houses, buffets. Restaurants are organized in the largest ones. Often supermarkets are not limited to just selling. For higher competition, attracting a mass client, along with the trading floor, the organizational unit includes confectioneries, bakeries, shops for the production of semi-finished food products.

For a Russian buyer, a retailer is a large company that sells mostly products in large stores. The format of supermarkets is less represented in our country. Thus, the rating of retailers shows that the Russian family today spends up to 50% of its budget on food. Compared with the countries of the former socialist camps, this is 1.5 times more. The Americans are the opposite in this system. The monthly cost of gastronomy for US residents is only about 8%. But let's get back to our territory. Agree, the names "Magnet", "Pyaterochka" are familiar to every inhabitant of our country. But "Auchan", "Karusel", "Line" - these are already places of purchases for citizens of large metropolitan areas.

But, of course, a retailer is not only a distributor of products. So, in second place in the list of purchases from a Russian is electronics, household appliances and appliances. With confidence, their supermarketsselling, can also be attributed to retailers.

Another equally well-known retailer on the Russian market is a network of mobile phone shops. They are not so large in nature, but such an indicator as the size of the average check makes them worthy, competitive players in the market.

This article reflects the main retailers in Russia without specific names and names. The activities of such companies are interesting and diverse. It is difficult to reflect it within the framework of one article, but, as mentioned above, we did not strive for this, but tried to tell in general terms who a retailer is.
