Every person who opens an individual business is required to register in the state register of the tax office and receive a unique code called the main state registration number (OGRN). The need for it is due, first of all, to the presence of a higher regulatory body, which needs it for quick search and reading of information.

History of OGRN

With the collapse of the USSR, all forms of ownership, organization and business had to be re-registered, that is, privatized. During the period of perestroika, joint-stock companies began to appear, for which it was enough to have an identification number of the tax inspectorate to function. Such a system of relations between the state and the private sector left much to be desired: firstly, enterprises suffered losses from the additional costs of auditing and accounting; secondly, state intervention in the internal affairs of companiesand organizations led to the stagnation of the market of free competition. So, the OGRN of an individual entrepreneur is a state registration number that includes all the information necessary for inspection and regulatory authorities to perform their functions. This number is assigned once and cannot be changed throughout the existence of the business. You can check the OGRN of an individual entrepreneur at the tax office. There he is entered in the unified state register of individual entrepreneurs, briefly EGRIP. It is also important to know about the state registration number (GRN) that it changes in accordance with changes in the registry. This is done, for example, when an entrepreneur receives a new passport.

Appointment of OGRN of an individual entrepreneur

The state has automated and thereby simplified the task of checking and controlling individual entrepreneurs,assigning them the OGRN, which contains all the basic information about their activities. A search by PSRN for an individual entrepreneur will show the form of ownership, year of establishment, place of registration, link to a specific tax office, and other information. At the same time, the TIN (individual tax number) will give you information only about the territorial location of the subject. It is possible to check the PSRN of an individual entrepreneur on the website of the Federal Tax Service, it is also indicated in the certificates issued by the tax authorities.

Decoding PSRN

Within five days from the date of filing an application with the tax service, the subject is issued a certificate of registration of an individual entrepreneur. It indicates the type of activity, the name of the enterprise, as well as the OGRN itself. It consists of fifteen characters, each of which has its own meaning: C_YY_KK_NN_ХХХХХХХ_Ч.

• The first letter is the state number.
• "YY" indicates the year the business was registered (for example, 2015 would be marked as 15).
• "KK" are symbols that indicate the regions of the subjects of Russia (77, for example, is the city of Moscow).
• НН - designation of the tax office that issues details.
• From the eighth to the fourteenth character - the individual number of the person receiving the OGRN.
• The last character "H" is a mathematical constant obtained by dividing all previous fourteen digits by 13.

Thus, the OGRN of the individualentrepreneur in the Russian Federation appeared to simplify the work of state bodies in finding representatives of individual businesses and their ordering. For an entrepreneur, such a system of relationships is beneficial, because the time of work of the accounting department is reduced.
