The Russian fleet in 2007 replenished with the newest multi-purpose ship. The founder of the 20380 series was the Guardian corvette, which received its name in honor of two destroyers, each of which contributed to the annals of the maritime glory of our Motherland.
In 1907 there was a war with Japan. During the defense of Port Arthur, a situation developed in which the destroyer "Guarding" took the battle with four enemy ships of the same class, which were soon joined, counting on an easy victory, by two cruisers. As a result of the battle, all Japanese ships received significant damage, and the Russian destroyer lost its course. The team sank their ship, and it went to the bottom without reaching the enemy and without lowering the St. Andrew's flag.
In 1941, another destroyer with the same name was the first to sink a German submarine in the B altic Sea Theater of Operations.
The new corvette "Guarding" has unusual contours. Its silhouette, outlined by bold slanted lines and planes, is not only beautiful, it is arranged rationally in order to give the ship a minimum of visibility.on the radar screens. Visually, it is also invisible. Almost all weapons and antennas are hidden inside the hull. Excellent driving performance is combined with effective armament and a high degree of autonomy (up to 400,000 nautical miles).
The complex control system, combined with stabilizing wings, provides the ability to fire with all the means that the Guardian is equipped with. The corvette can perform any combat missions with a wave of up to five points.
The speed of the ship is 30 knots (a knot is one mile or 1852 m/h). The crew, including the maintenance personnel of the air wing (helicopter), is one hundred people. With a length of 105 meters, the Guardian corvette cannot be called a giant, its displacement is 2000 tons. But, as in many other cases, size is not the main thing. The project is revolutionary, this ship can change all ideas about modern naval combat.
The armament of the corvette is made up of systems for various purposes. Artillery is represented by a 100-millimeter mount capable of firing in automatic mode, capturing and accompanying several targets, while choosing the highest priority in terms of threat. The Klinok air defense system reliably protects the Guarding corvette from air attacks of a possible enemy. There are also bombing installations for the fight against submarines. The torpedo tubes are equipped with ultra-high-speed underwater rockets.
Corvette is capable of effectively attacking surface ships, including aircraft carriers, and coastal bases.
On oneshipbuilders from St. Petersburg and Komsomolsk-on-Amur did not stop in this instance. Two other corvettes of project 20380 of the B altic Fleet are already in service - "Smart" and "Boyky". Two more are under construction and a couple more are planned for laying.
During the 2007 International Naval Show in St. Petersburg, none of the participating countries presented such a sensational ship as the Guardian. The corvette, whose photo against the background of the Peter and Paul Fortress symbolizes the continuity of the fleet - the brainchild of Peter the Great, went around all the world's publications. Countries that are strategic allies of Russia have shown interest in the project.
