Historical background

In the 60s, with the development of the chemical, glass, and construction industries, the issue of providing industry enterprises with soda and its derivatives became acute. Scientists from the Leningrad Giprokhim and Kharkov NIOCHEM jointly developed a project for the construction of a new soda plant. The site for construction was chosen in the city of Krasnoperekopsk due to the availability of readily available raw materials.

25.08.1967 The USSR Council of Ministers ordered the construction of the Crimean soda plant with record capacity:

  • disodium phosphate - 200,000 tons annually;
  • soda ash – 675000 tons;
  • thermal phosphoric acid – 60000 t.

Construction work began in the spring of 1968. The launch of the first stage of the KSZ took place on December 28, 1973. Soda product was produced firstdisodium phosphate. The first soda ash was produced at the new plant on 1975-30-06.

The enterprise had a large production potential, high-performance equipment was supplied from the GDR. With the development of the technological cycle, the quality of soda improved. In 1977, the products were certified for the Quality Mark of the USSR. The Crimean soda plant was the first in the USSR to produce heavy soda (1980). For this significant achievement, many members of the team were awarded Diplomas of VDNKh of the USSR and the Ukrainian SSR.

New time

In 2003 KSZ was privatized. Attracted investments made it possible to significantly modernize technological equipment, reduce harmful emissions by 15%, and programs were carried out to reduce fuel and energy resources. In particular, a turbine shop with a capacity of 6 MW was put into operation, a new pneumopacking line was installed, steam calciners were reconstructed, a medium-pressure gas pipeline was connected, and advanced technology for automating economic and financial activities was introduced. Over the next 5 years, the volume of soda production increased by a third, and net income increased by 2.9 times.

The plant remains one of the most developed and profitable enterprises in the Krasnoperekopsky district and the Crimea as a whole. The groundwork left by the previous owners allows us to further increase the production of such important products.

Description

Crimean soda plant was the only national supplier of soda ash in Ukrainepopular brands "A" and "B". Today, with the change of ownership, the enterprise is a subject of the Russian chemical industry.

Besides industrial soda, KSZ produces the composition "Syaivo", used in the manufacture of household chemicals, baking soda, building lime, cooking s alt Extra grade. For maintenance of the street and road network in winter, the plant offers anti-icing agents based on calcium chloride. In 2015, the enterprise was reorganized into PJSC "Crimean Soda Plant". In 2015, KSZ produced 524,800 tons of brand “B” soda, 335,000 tons of brand “A”, more than 20,000 tons of baking soda. It was produced 22465 tons, of which 205 tons are in tablet form, 69 tons are in cardboard packaging.

Production

The most important raw materials for the industrial production of soda ash using the Solvay method are sodium chloride and chalk (limestone). They are mined in the vicinity of Krasnoperekopsk. Thus, KSZ is provided with its own raw materials, which gives the plant certain advantages.

Soda of the Crimean soda plant is produced by the ammonia method (Solvay method). This is a multi-step process that includes the following steps:

  • Producing lime and carbon dioxide.
  • Obtaining milk of lime.
  • Cleaning raw brine.
  • Preparation of ammoniated brine in the departmentabsorption.
  • Brine carbonation.
  • Filtration of sodium bicarbonate liquid slurry.
  • His calcination in the soda oven shop.
  • Recovery of ammonia from soda liquids in the distillation section.

Ecology

Crimean soda plant as a large chemical enterprise has a negative impact on the ecology of the region. In the production activities of the KSZ, a significant amount of solid and liquid waste is generated and then discharged into the environment. Danger cause:

  • highly mineralized waste represented by distiller slurries and brine sludge;
  • low-mineralized wastewater from lime kiln gas treatment and chemical water treatment;
  • excess solutions of sodium bicarbonate production.

Waste enters the sludge reservoirs, called "white seas". The accumulator-evaporator KSZ is located in the northern part of Lake Krasnoe, which is part of the Perekop group of drainless s alt lakes (Krasnoe, Kiyatskoe, Kirleutskoe). It is located 10 kilometers from the Black Sea Karkinitsky Bay. The total area of the lagoon is more than 23 million m22.

Problems and Solutions

After the accession of the Republic of Crimea in 2014, the Crimean Soda Plant OJSC came under the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation. In response, Ukraine suspended the flow of water through the North Crimean Canal. As a result, the enterprise lost the technical water necessary for the productioncycle. The problem was solved by drilling aquifers. To filter the liquid supplied from the wells, it was necessary to build a reverse osmosis plant with a capacity of 500 m33 per hour.

Another problem was the energy blackout caused by the explosion of power transmission poles on the border with Crimea in the winter of 2015. The plant needs about 20 MW/h for uninterrupted production. However, the company has its own mini thermal power plant that generates electricity and heat.

Reviews

KSZ is one of the largest specialized enterprises on the planet, controlling 2% of the world soda market. It cooperates with leading chemical companies and dealers. Feedback from partners speaks of decent product quality, prompt shipment and attractive pricing. Ordinary consumers highly appreciate the baking soda of the Crimean plant.
