New professions: who is a logistician and what does he do?

In this article we will look at what logistics is. And in particular, what does the logistics manager do, what are his duties, and what is the essence of the work.

Very often there are disagreements due to the fact that people interpret this concept differently. Sometimes even those who have worked for more than a year in this area find it difficult to continue the phrase “logistician is”. One of these misconceptions is that this area of activity means the whole worldview of the enterprise's business processes through the prism of costs that need to be controlled and optimized.

According to the wording in the textbooks, logistics is the management, planning, organization and subsequent control of the movement of material assets and the flow corresponding to them in the company's business processes. In other words, this means the management of material and related movements, starting from the purchase of the raw materials of the product (goods) and ending with its optimal receipt by the end user. To put it simply, a logistician is a person who manages and regulates the entire supply chain.

However, this is not always true. Since this profession is new for our market, very often the picture looks like this: a logistician -is a person who manages the organization's processes or controls inventory items.

It turns out that each organization itself forms the terms of reference for this position. Therefore, a logistician without work experience who is hired by a company must first find out what exactly he will need to do, determine the scope of his duties and what exactly is required of him. For example, some are convinced that one cannot do without knowledge of higher mathematics in this area, guided by a stereotypical view. In fact, a logistician is a professional who can build a strategic system with the exception of failures that lead to additional material costs. That is, he must be a specialist in economy. For other employers, it is important that the hired person has the skills of diplomacy to settle work with suppliers, transport companies and colleagues. It all depends on the industry and the scope of the organization. But we can make a general conclusion that a logistician is a process specialist responsible for the final result. Therefore, general knowledge of finance, management, marketing, legislation, as well as knowledge of foreign languages will always be welcome.

Be prepared for the fact that in order to get a job in the desired organization, you will need to complete additional training.

Unfortunately, in our country there are no logistics companies as such (in the classical sense of the word). There are structures and organizations that carry out a certain, clearlyregulated role in the overall process.

As a result, we can say that a logistician is an organizer who can bring everything and everyone together, motivate each "link" of the chain to coordinate the fulfillment of the tasks of the end customer, who, in fact, pays for everything.
