Water networks exist not only to provide water to urban residents, but also serve as the main sources for extinguishing fires. Separate access to them in case of an emergency is created by a fire column directly connected to a hydrant.

Destinations and main components of a fire hydrant

To extinguish a fire, it is necessary to have special equipment that ensures the rational use of all the necessary resources to eliminate it. Fire hydrants are installed to draw water from the general network, this allows you to quickly respond in case of an emergency. In addition, they can be used for land reclamation purposes. Features of the installation of a hydrant are to create certain conditions for its protection from fire, so it is often installed in specially equipped shelters. There are two types of hydrants:

1. Ground. They are fixed on the surface of the earth, located on the plumbing system. At the same time, very often a fire column is attached to them immediately after installation.

2. The second variety is underground hydrants. They aredesigned to be connected to water wells. Their work is provided by a column installed on the surface.

The main requirements for the functionality of such an element of a modern fire extinguishing system are the creation of a continuous supply of water and frost resistance. Features of the fire hydrant

Fire column. Purpose and structural features

To ensure the operation of the hydrant, a special key element is used, which is designed for direct connection with it. In this case, it is the fire column that acts as a link for supplying water through the hydrant. The main components of this element are the body and head. There is a triangular-threaded bronze ring at the bottom of the case to ensure a secure fit. It should be noted that specifically for underground hydrants there is a fire column KPA, with which you can open and close the access of water from the well. It is equipped with a threaded ring for installation, and a tee is attached to its upper part during operation. A pressure key passes through such a column, with which you can open

there is a hydrant valve, but when removing it, you must first close it.

Features of the fire column

When working, the protective cover of the hydrant is folded back and the fire column is screwed up to a tight connection, whichdetermined by the level of pressing the gasket. The water pressure is controlled by turning the handle counterclockwise, while the rod rotates, which gradually leads to the opening of the valve through other connecting elements. Then water enters through the formed passage into the hydrant body and passes into the fire column. At the end of the work, the pressure is closed in the reverse order, and the remaining water is drained through a special channel, which closes when the valve is open through a rubber seal.
