Before you start calculating the cubature of different types of boards and answer the question: "How many boards are in a cube?" - you should consider what the concept of "cubic meter of lumber" means, and what the construction market offers.
Varieties of lumber and their sizes
Boards are obtained by longitudinal sawing of logs. Standardly they have a length of 4 to 6 meters. The width varies. The thinnest ones belong to the lining class - up to two and a half centimeters, then there is a shalevka board, the thickness of which is basically equal to two centimeters (but sometimes 2, 5, and 4, and 5 cm). More expensive - edged building board, the dimensions of which are quite standardized: the width is always greater than its double height, and the length is 4 (rarely 4.5) and 6 meters. Thicker boards are called timber. For convenience, sawn wood is sold in cubes, and for construction it is important to know how many boards are in 1 cube.
We will not consider lining, due to the fact that this type of lumber is used mainly for finishing work and is calculated separately.
First of all onthe construction site will need a screed board, which is several times cheaper than a cut one and is needed for formwork, roof filing, battens, subflooring, construction of utility rooms.
The width of such a board can be 10-15 centimeters, in length they are standard or cut into two or three meters. Knowing the perimeter of the future foundation and the parameters of the shalevka, it is easy to calculate how many boards are in a cube and how many cubic meters you need to buy for formwork. For more accurate calculations, you can use online calculators, which are located on the website of most lumber sellers.
What is the cubature for?
If you directly answer the question: "How many boards are in a cube?" - then there will be one option - a cubic meter. We need more specific data. For example, how much area can be sheathed with one cube of lumber of a certain thickness?
Let's conditionally designate the width of the board - W, the thickness - T, the length - D. The result will depend on the thickness (T). The area formula (P) is known from school:
P (m2)=WxL/T (1m x 1m / 0.02m=50m2).
That is, if we take a cubic meter of boards 2 cm thick, they will cover 50 m2.
Sometimes you need to know the total length (L) of a tree in 1 m3.
Count using the formula:
L=1 m3/T x W.
And finally, the answer to the question: "How many boards are in a cube (beams, round blanks, etc.)?". If lumber parameters are known,then the result can be obtained by applying the formula:
K=W x T x L
By this principle, the cubic capacity of one board is also calculated, but do not forget to convert all dimensions into meters.
Examples of calculating the volume of edged boards
The most popular edged board, which is used for walls, floors, ceilings, partitions, rafters and stairs. Each size even has its own “name”: inch, forty, five, timber (it is immediately clear what width of the board we are talking about).
Calculate, for example, how many boards can be in an inch cube, knowing its width. So, with a width of 10 cm - these are 66 pieces, and with a width of 15 cm - 44 pieces. One cubic meter is enough to cover 40 m2.
An example of calculating the cubic capacity of one six-meter inch 15 cm wide:
0.15m x 0.025m x 6m=0.0225m3.
If it is necessary to calculate the volume, for example, of floorboards (with spikes), only the working width of the board (without spikes) is substituted into the formula. If a blockhouse (a board imitating a log) is calculated, then the thickness is indicated by the highest point.
