The time of harvesting hay and straw for the winter is the time for hard work on farms and in private backyards. In the old days, the grass was mowed by hand and collected in haystacks. It was hard, exhausting work. Now, to simplify labor, various devices have been created, including the PRF-180 baler.
The mechanism clings to the tractor and in the process collects grass and presses it. Hay in rolls is well stored, it is convenient to transport and feed it to livestock.
Why do I need a baler in a farm?
Fodder for the winter can also be done manually, but this will require a lot of time and effort. Haymaking is carried out only in good weather, the ideal time for it is from the last days of June to mid-July. Later, the grass becomes tough and less nutritious, so it is advisable to remove it before it goes into the ear. With manual mowing and hay harvesting, you may not have time to do the work in the allotted time. In this case, the hay will be of lower quality, and the cattle will not gorge on it.
PRF-180 baler quickly collects dried grass and rolls it into rolls. With the help of teeth, it captures the vegetation, and thentwists it. The PRF-180 baler wraps the finished rolls with ropes and pushes them out. With the help of the unit, you can harvest up to 20 tons of dry grass in 2-3 weeks. The more hay the machine collects, the denser the bales will be at the exit.
Round picker PRF-180. Overall dimensions and characteristics
Excellent performance characteristics of the PRF-180 pick-up press made it possible to show it at the competition “100 Best Russian Goods”. Closed bale chamber prevents forage loss. The unit rolls the bales in such a way as to keep the air in the hay, this avoids the appearance of mold and damp feed.
Dimensions of the PRF-180 baler:
- width 2.5m;
- length 4.1m;
- height 2.8 m.
The unit rolls straw into rolls weighing from 300 to 500 kg, and hay from 450 to 750 kg. The working width is 165 cm. The result is 1.5 m long bales that have a diameter of 1.5 m.
For tying, the baler uses twine at the rate of 200 to 500 g per ton of raw material, which is slightly lower than similar models. To attach the unit to the tractor, a towing device of the TSU-1Zh class is used.
Baler safety precautions
The baler is a potentially dangerous machine and requires strict adherence to the operating instructions. Careless handling of the mechanism may result in injury.
Technology requirementssafety when using the baler:
- before starting operation, the tractor driver must make sure that there are no strangers on the mowing;
- turns and moving from place to place must be done with the pick-up raised;
- while working in the tractor cab there should be no strangers;
- when operating the baler, it is necessary to observe the speed limit;
- when changing wheels, you need to install the tractor on a flat plane and fix it in place, preventing it from moving;
- before removing the pick-up, chocks must be placed under the wheels of the machine.
Before leaving for the mowing, the tractor driver must check the availability of a fire extinguisher, spark arrester and shovel.
Procedure of work with baler PRF-180
Initially, it is necessary to prepare the tractor for work: check the presence of rear-view mirrors, the serviceability of all mechanisms, create a limit on the stroke of the hitch hydraulic cylinder piston. Install rear lights and reflectors on the pick-up. Check and, if necessary, tighten the bolted connections, bring the tire pressure to normal. Then attach the baler to the tractor.
Procedure of work with the round baler PRF-180:
- carry out a break-in at a small number of revolutions, gradually increasing to the required;
- set twine bobbins for rolls;
- put the handle of the lift hydraulic distributor to the “floating” position and turn on the PTO of the tractor;
- when working, monitor the achievement of the required density in the roll to turn on the winding;
- after completing the procedure, you need to cut the twine with a knife and unload the rolled hay.
For better fodder preservation, it is recommended to press in the morning or in the evening.
Baler repair
When buying a PRF-180 b baler (or 180 used), you need to understand that it may soon need repairs. The new unit, with proper adjustment, is able to work out 3-4 seasons without significant breakdowns.
The PRF-180 baler has a simple and clear design, but it is better to entrust complex repairs to professionals. When debugging yourself, give preference to spare parts from the manufacturer. Use quality twine for tying rolls. To prevent breakdowns, adjust and eliminate minor malfunctions in advance of the start of haymaking, in this case, the baler will last a long time.

PRF-110 baler: specifications and operation
After the autumn harvest, farmers most often carry out the preparation of fodder for livestock in order to ensure its normal nutrition in the winter. This process is labor intensive and can be time consuming if dry grass harvesting is done by hand. To speed up harvesting work, special mechanized devices are used, for example, the PRF-110 baler, which can significantly reduce energy costs and time for forage harvesting
