A country like Russia, due to its large spaces, requires special solutions in the field of transport. These include, in particular, double-deck cars. Russian Railways, however, did not find anything better in this regard than to take advantage of the idea that appeared in the Russian Empire even before the October Revolution. At that time, the Tver and Sormovo plants produced rolling stock with an additional floor. Also, attempts to transport more people per unit of wheelsets were made in the USSR, when such trains ran between Ryazan and Moscow, Kovel and Lvov, in the Chelyabinsk region.
In what directions are double-decker cars supposed to be launched? Russian Railways (Russian Railways) want to use the novelty for trips from Moscow to Voronezh, Tula, Smolensk and the Black Sea destinations, which is especially important in the summer, because you can get to Russian resorts by train for less money than by plane. Wagons with bedridden people will run southplaces, and in some other cities - with sitting. The car building plant in Tver plans to produce economy and business class models. In the first option, 129 people can be transported, and in the second there is an increased level of comfort. For example, displays for watching movies are mounted in the seatbacks in front of the passenger.
What parameters do double-deck cars have? Russian Railways ordered the development of models that, thanks to a special anti-corrosion alloy, will last for about forty years. The special surface treatment of the composition allows to achieve a low level of air resistance, which will save energy consumption at a speed of about 160 kilometers per hour. For the convenience of passengers, information boards will be equipped everywhere, as well as access to the compartment using electronic keys.
What else are double-decker cars interesting for? Russian Railways will be able to offer a shower for customers of class CB (car for thirty special compartments), and disabled people with accompanying persons will be provided with appropriate seats and lifts. Unlike standard trains, the larger trains will be equipped with hermetically sealed passages between cars, which will result in the absence of a vestibule. Each car will be equipped with three toilet rooms with a standard set of items, a wardrobe, as well as a cooler with coffee and tea supplies.
Double-deck RZD cars inside the project look quite nice. Color solutions are selected in beige and blue tones, which have a positive effect on the mood of passengers. Overall Heightwagon is about 5.25 meters, with each floor forty centimeters lower than in a conventional railway unit (2.1 meters versus 2.5). The stability of the train on the way is provided by special springs.
We won't be the first country to use RZD's double deck cars these days. Photos from China, USA, Germany show that this idea is very viable and saves money by carrying more passengers with less service and energy costs.

Double-deck cars from the Tver Carriage Works are planned to be used on Russian railways
Russian-made double-deck cars were presented by the Tver Carriage Works (TVZ) back in 2009. The timing of the introduction of "giants" into mass operation is still vague. Russian Railways has already expressed its approval, and tests will show whether it is advisable to put double-deck cars into operation. They may be most in demand on routes from Moscow to St. Petersburg, Minsk, Kyiv, Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Kostroma, Novgorod, Kazan
