Today, the rolled metal market has grown so much that in its diversity an unprepared person can simply get lost and, as a result, choose not what he needed initially. It is quite possible to avoid such a combination of circumstances. To do this, you need to persistently and long enough to study the relevant literature, GOSTs and other documentation. However, there is a much easier way - in this article you will get acquainted with the most basic and necessary information about steel 15HSND, deciphering its designation, application, composition, and even substitute brands. The proposed material will save even the most unprepared person from painfully long and dull study of technical documentation.
Deciphering the name of the steel
To an unprepared person, the phrase "steel 15HSND" will most likely seem like a magic spell or just incoherent gibberish, but anyone who has encountered metallurgy, even indirectly, will immediately be able to understand that something is hidden behind this set of letters and numbers far more important. It is with this notationexperts recognize the properties and approximate composition of steel. So how do they do it? In fact, everything is simple:
- The number 15 paired with the letter "X" indicates the content of 0.15% chromium in the alloy.
- The letter "C" in the domestic steel marking system denotes the chemical element silicon.
- The letter "H" accurately indicates the content of nickel in the steel.
- The letter "D" denotes such an element from the periodic table as copper.
- And since only chromium has a numerical designation, the percentage suspension of all subsequent elements indicated in the title is not so significant.
Application
Each individual steel grade always has its own personal state standard, or GOST, which strictly regulates all related information related to this steel grade. 15HSND, of course, was no exception. The following designation is provided for it in the corresponding GOST: "low-alloy structural steel for use in welded metal structures or chromium-silicon-nickel steel."
Most often this brand is produced in sheet metal, which determines its further use in various industries.
To be more precise, 15KhSND steel is supplied primarily to enterprises associated with the manufacture of prefabricated structures. For example, it is used in bridge building, mechanical engineering, construction and many other industries, which indicates some popularity.this steel grade.
Steel composition
The determining factor that gives steel certain properties is its composition. From what chemical elements are contained in the composition of the alloy, it directly depends on whether it will be solid, what environmental conditions it can endure, what internal structure it will have, and much more. Also an important aspect is the percentage of one or another element, because it depends on how strongly those properties for which the same element from the periodic table is responsible.
The following chemical composition is typical for 15KhSND steel:
- carbon - 0.15%;
- silicon - 0.55%;
- manganese - 0.55%;
- chrome - 0.75%;
- nickel - 0.45%;
- copper - 0.3%;
- nitrogen - 0.012%;
- sulfur - 0.04%;
- phosphorus - 0.035%;
- arsenic - 0.08%;
Characteristic
As you can see, the list of elements is very extensive, but the percentage of each individual representative is very small, so they do not give significant increases in the strength characteristics of 15KhSND steel, but they significantly improve the structure, protecting the steel from various kinds of internal defects, be it cracks, micropores, flocks, cavities, and also have a very positive effect on its overall quality, and given the relatively low content of useful impurities, such steel becomes more profitable in terms of price / quality ratio.
Substitutes
If you search well, then any product on the market will have a competitor that almost completely matches the original or even surpasses it in some way. A similar rule applies to metallurgy, where for each steel grade there is at least one or several names from the category of "substitutes", that is, materials similar in properties and composition.
For 15KhSND steel on the domestic market, the following analogues can be distinguished:
- 16G2AF - steel with a slightly larger amount of silicon in the composition, as well as with the addition of vanadium, which improves its strength characteristics.
- 15GF - almost the same as the previous option, except for a smaller percentage of elements in the composition.
- 14HGS is a cheaper, but no less balanced analogue suitable for lightly loaded structures.
- 16GS - in general, this is an excellent, albeit somewhat incomplete, analogue of 15HSND, suitable for structures that are subject to moderate static loads.
However, if you have work ahead of you where you need to use steel for the construction of a certain structure or cladding, it is better not to sell cheap and purchase the highest quality steel grade.
