With the grass growing under the trees and along the fences, summer residents are mercilessly fighting. After all, if you do not mow it in time, it will give seeds that will scatter throughout the garden. However, not everyone knows that grass can be used to make an excellent fertilizer that is useful for plants and, unlike chemicals, absolutely harmless to human he alth. You can make it in two ways, each of which is not particularly difficult.
Liquid grass fertilizer is made by soaking grass in water. The mixture must be fermented first. To do this, the grass is crushed and placed in a plastic or wooden barrel in such a way as to fill it by a third. Next, water is added to the container, closed with a lid, tied with polyethylene and left to ferment for about a week. For greater effect, you can add a little manure to the mixture. It is best if the barrel will stand in a sunny place. In this case, the fermentation process will be much faster. In addition, it is worth installing the barrel away from recreation areas, playgrounds, gazebos, etc. The thing isthat during fermentation, the mixture emits an extremely unpleasant odor.
Preparing grass fertilizer should be thoroughly mixed daily. The fermented mixture begins to foam, acquires a marsh hue and a characteristic smell. This type of slurry indicates that it is ready for use. In order to make top dressing out of it, it is diluted with water in a ratio of 110. A steeper solution can burn plant roots. Before using fertilizer, the beds should be watered abundantly. Approximately 1-3 liters of fertilizer should be applied to one plant, depending on its age.
Fertilizer from cut grass can be obtained in another way - composting. To do this, they dig a trench on the site. A layer of soddy soil is laid on its bottom. Then a layer of dried grass, then - manure, fallen leaves and food waste. Thus, about 60% of green mass, 20% of land and ten percent of manure and waste should be present in the finished mixture. In order for the composting process to go more intensively, earthworms are launched into the pile. It will be possible to use fertilizer in a year and a half. So that it does not turn sour, you need to mix it with a pitchfork from time to time.
Ready-made fertilizer from grass is laid in the beds in the spring, after removing the layer of earth worked out during the season. In terms of energy value, such a mixture can be compared with black soil. Plants fed in this way will thrive and produce the right crop.
The trenches left after making compost, by the way, can be used for sprouting potatoes. The tubers are laid on the bottom in one layer and covered from above with non-woven material. This must be done a month before planting potatoes.
Thus, grass fertilizer can be used both in liquid and dry form. In both cases, the result will not be long in coming. Plants will look much stronger. And strong cultures are much less likely to be affected by various kinds of diseases. Consequently, the yield can be obtained much higher. So it is not advisable to burn the cut grass at all.
Now you know how to make grass fertilizer. This is not at all difficult to do, and the result will be simply magnificent. Of course, as in everything, when applying such top dressing, you should try not to overdo it. For example, using too much liquid fertilizer can lead to overgrown foliage, which is undesirable for some crops.
