JSC "Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant" is a city-forming enterprise in the west of the Chelyabinsk region. AMZ is one of the top five Russian suppliers of thick plates, nanocrystalline and amorphous alloys. A leader in stainless steel cookware, household items and garden tools.

Creation

Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant has a rich history. At the end of the 19th century, the industrialist Alexei Umov set about building an ironworks in the Urals. As a place, a “deaf corner” was chosen in the heart of the taiga, completely covered with forest. Wood was the main source of energy for many decades, until 1947. The Balashov brothers, who sponsored the construction, made a special contribution.

1898 is considered to be the year of foundation of the enterprise. By the beginning of the 20th century, several blast furnaces were built, and the first cast iron was obtained. Before the revolution, they managed to build a steel-smelting production and three open-hearthoven.

Soviet period

Field of revolution Ashinsky metallurgical plant was nationalized. In the Great Patriotic War, about 700 metallurgists went to the front, 300 of them died. Men were replaced by women, teenagers, old people. AMZ produced valuable products - extra strong armored steel, the unique characteristics of which were achieved by adding slag.

Until the end of the 40s, the plant did not have its own rolling production. Smelted ingots were sent for further processing to Zlatoust and Minyar. As part of a large-scale modernization in 1952, a sheet-rolling shop (LPC) No. 1 was built, where mainly thick sheet metal was rolled. After 7 years, rolling mill No. 2 was launched, supplying rolled products for defense enterprises of the aircraft and shipbuilding complex.

In 1974, the Rolling Mill No. 3 was launched with the most modern equipment at that time. Within its walls, unique products were produced - kinescope tape. There was no such production in the USSR anymore. Without this tape, domestic television factories would not be able to produce color televisions. After the end of the era of CRT kinescopes, the workshop was redesigned.

In the mid-80s, with the growing shortage of household items, the Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant began manufacturing consumer goods (consumer goods). Here, in 1987, the largest shop in the USSR for the production of stainless steel utensils was organized.

Modern production

With the change of system in 1992, the company was privatized. During this period, the main product of consumer goodsbecomes a metal thermos. Ashinsky Iron and Steel Works was one of the first to buy a license from the Japanese for this scarce commodity.

The period from 1997 to 2012 was a turning point. Under the leadership of General Director Vladimir Evstratov, AMZ underwent a radical reconstruction. Morally obsolete machines and equipment were updated, the technological process was transferred from coal to gas. In the 2000s, the range of consumer goods expanded due to gardening tools, products for tourism and recreation.

In the field of "large" metallurgy JSC "Ashinsky Metallurgical Plant" also expected cardinal changes. A power generating complex was put into operation, a progressive unit - a "ladle-furnace" was put into operation, the construction of an ONRS began, and the production of EAF-120 and CCM was put into operation. The glorious era of open-hearth furnaces ended in 2010.

Today the plant is headed by Vladimir Myzgin. The projects started by the previous administration continue to be implemented. Among the high-profile achievements of recent years are the reconstruction of the first rolling mill and the launch of a limestone kiln.
