Small boats are watercraft that are equipped with engines less than 75 horsepower. This category includes sailing and non-self-propelled units, the power index of which is regulated by register units. They must be no more than 80 tons with a gross tonnage of less than 10 registers (in tons). In addition, this area includes kayaks, rowing boats and inflatable boats with a load capacity of 100-225 kilograms.

General information

Small boats are engineering structures designed to transport a certain number of passengers or cargo. The options under consideration are intended for hiking, fishing and sports competitions. Often such boats are used in the national economy, especially in the regions of Siberia and the Volga region.

Vehicles use onboard, mounted or stationary power units. On sailing yachts, the motor can also be operated if it is necessary to tow in difficult climatic conditions. The basic rules apply to all watercraft classified as devices with mechanical propulsion.

Features

Small boats can be divided into the following categories:

  • Displacement options. They are kept afloat thanks to the Archimedean law, which is based on being supported by a mass of water equal to the volume displaced by the watercraft. The speed of such specimens is lower than analogues, despite a decent indicator of seaworthiness.
  • Gliders. These small vessels, when stationary, are kept afloat due to the supporting force and displacement. As the speed increases, planing models perform maneuvers due to the dynamic lift that is generated in the flat bottom compartments. Gliding begins at the moment the bottom part is located at an angle of attack of about 3-6 degrees. This indicator is also affected by the workload of the vessel and the available equipment.

Management of other types of small boats

The class under consideration includes all categories of motor boats, pleasure craft, home-made specimens with low-power outboard or stationary engines, gliding in a displacement mode of motion.

Boats are small boats equipped with a stationary power unit. Swimming aids are used for walking, as well as special vehicles. Seaworthy models are equipped with deck, cockpit and superstructure. These structures have a length of no more than 8 meters, are operated mainly in open water bodies and the mouths of large rivers, and are equipped with boat lines. Such mechanisms are also called bots. In addition to a stationary motor, they may have sailing equipment. Swimming facilities of this type are divided into fishing, rescue and pilot categories.

Boats and yachts

Let's consider several more types of small boats, whose navigators control them with motors or sails:

  1. Boats. This category includes the type of rowing boats with the possibility of using outboard motors. They serve to rescue people, perform transport tasks and special missions. Depending on the purpose, boats are classified as rescue, working, transport, pleasure class.
  2. Yachts are mainly sailing or motor-sailing vessels that have different displacement and are designed for recreation, tourism or sports.
  3. Gliders are motor boats equipped with transverse steps in the form of ledges on the bottom. Single models of this category are also called scooters. A motorboat with wings is often referred to as a hydrofoil.

Rights to operate small boats

The operation of the considered category of swimming facilities is allowed after their registration in the ship's book with registration marks and technical inspection. The survey allows you to determine the maximum power of the boat, its displacement, draft, carrying capacity and profile purpose. The board must be equipped with all necessary meanssecurity, including fire fighting equipment, signal lights and navigational equipment.

State registration is carried out by the relevant control authorities. Small boats can be driven by persons who have passed exams for the right to drive this category of transport. Water bodies without navigational conditions are used in the transport direction, taking into account right-hand traffic (left sides).

The nominal speed of movement within settlements, as well as the parking place of ships, are regulated by the Inspectorate for Small Vessels, in accordance with regulations and current legislation.

Safety

The rights to operate small boats allow you to operate the unit for its intended purpose. In any case, the following is prohibited in the operation and maintenance of such tools:

  • Use a vessel that has not passed state registration.
  • Re-equip vehicles without obtaining special permission.
  • Drive a boat or boat while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
  • Give control to a person who does not have the right to drive small boats.
  • Exceed the rated speed limit.
  • Make damage to other aircraft or markings.
  • Entering areas closed to navigation without proper permission.
  • Maneuver in the waters of beaches and crowds.

Faults prohibiting the operation of "small sizes"

Operation and navigation of small boats is prohibited in the presence of the following faults:

  • The occurrence of through holes in the hull.
  • Depressurization of air boxes or pressurized compartments.
  • Missing steering column fasteners or damage affecting the reliability of this unit.
  • Observation of fuel leaks, excessive vibration, malfunction of the muffler or reverse gear.
  • Mismatch with the equipment and equipment standards specified in the ship's ticket.
  • Faulty or missing signal lights and life-saving equipment.

Obligations of the skipper

This list includes several main provisions, namely:

  • Compliance with government regulations.
  • Checking the ship before each sailing.
  • Instructing passengers on the behavior on the watercraft, as well as ensuring their safety.
  • Presence of documentary evidence of the right to small boats and their management.
  • Compliance with the requirements of inspection bodies and authorized persons.
