For over 200 years, the Kirov Plant (St. Petersburg) has been working for the benefit of Russia. Founded in April 1801 as a small iron foundry, today it has become a diversified industrial complex. The factory workers stood at the origins of the domestic tractor industry, starting in 1924 the serial production of Fordson-Putilovets tractors. In fact, this was the first mass production of energy-saturated wheeled tractors in the USSR. The company also traditionally specializes in the production of powerful turbines and military products.

The start of the journey

Founded by Paul I in 1801, the St. Petersburg Iron Foundry grew from a small cannonball smelting enterprise into one of the largest industries in the city on the Neva and throughout Russia. During the first 65 years of its existence, the future Kirov Plant (St. Petersburg) changed many names and owners, and was actually bankrupt several times.

Successful history of the enterprisebegan after its purchase by the industrialist N. I. Putilov in 1869. One of the first Bessemer conveyors for smelting better (compared to open-hearth) steel was installed here. Railroad rails were made from it. Over time, the range expanded: the plant produced passenger and freight cars, and after the death of Putilov (1880) - steam locomotives, ship tower guns, destroyers.

On the threshold of the 20th century

The Kirov Plant can be proud of its glorious history. St. Petersburg in the 20th century turned into a major industrial center largely thanks to the “Putilovites”. By 1900, the company was the third in terms of production among all European engineering companies and the undisputed leader in Russia.

In addition to military and railway equipment, tool steel was smelted here, shells, excavators, crushers, cranes, dredgers, excavators were made. Own machine tool production was developed. However, it was the Putilov plant that became the epicenter of the 1905 revolution. Established in 1912, the Putilov Shipyard eventually became one of the domestic shipbuilding centers, now known as the Northern Shipyard.

By the beginning of 1917, 36,000 people worked at the Putilov factory. It was a close-knit team, hardened by the events of 1905-07. Just like 12 years ago, it was the “Putilovites” who stirred up the empire - they became the locomotive of the February Revolution. The Bolsheviks took advantage of their victory, subsequently nationalizing the enterprise for debts toRussian Republic.”

Kirov Tractor Plant

St. Petersburg experienced an industrial boom after the Civil War. New production facilities were opened, the production of innovative products was mastered. The Putilov plant, renamed in 1922 into the Krasny Putilovets, did not bypass the changes. The government made a bold decision to radically change the specialization of the enterprise, traditionally focused on railway equipment, the fleet and the production of ammunition.

In 1924, the plant mastered the mass production of Fordson-Putilovets wheeled tractors, later it was replaced by more advanced Universal wheeled tractors. In the late 1930s, the name "Kirovets" first appeared on experimental caterpillar tractors. Their heir, the KD-35 serial tractor, was produced in 1940-1950 at the Lipetsk and Minsk Tractor Plants. The present name "Kirovsky Zavod" (St. Petersburg was renamed Leningrad on January 26, 1924) was received by the enterprise on December 17, 1934 after the death of a prominent statesman and favorite of the townspeople, S. M. Kirov. During the Second World War, despite the siege of Leningrad, the factory workers set up the production and repair of tanks and other military equipment. For heroic work, the enterprise (or rather, its employees) was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War.

From Fordson to Kirovets

On July 13, 1962, the first "Kirovets K-700" left the factory's shops, and it is from this date that the modern history of the brand is counted. The first batch of tractors was sent for comprehensive testing to different regions of the country, so that in a yearmass-produced cars rolled off the assembly line. The legendary K-700 was produced until 1975. He was replaced by more advanced models - K-700A and K-701. They were destined to live on the assembly line for more than a quarter of a century and write many glorious pages in the history of the brand.

Along with the mass production of mass-produced models, the plant constantly created innovative developments. Some of them remained single experimental and exhibition samples, but many were mass-produced. And today the products of the Kirov Plant (St. Petersburg) are in demand on the market. Modern energy-saturated tractors of the K-744R and K-9000 series have a wide range of models. They stand out for their high power (300-428 hp for the K-744R series and up to 516 hp for the K-9000 series), versatility, a new level of comfort for tractor drivers, and the use of innovative technical solutions. "Kirovtsy" are able to work effectively in conditions that are unbearable for other brands of tractors in agriculture, at construction and industrial facilities. In addition to powerful tractors, the company produces utility vehicles, loaders, rollers and other products.

For many years, Kirovets equipment has been a leader in the segments of powerful wheeled tractors, front loaders with a lifting capacity of 6 tons and special-purpose equipment based on tractor modules.
