The dream of every pig breeder is to have pigs that enter puberty early, give birth to a large number of piglets, eat little and cheaply, and grow very quickly. They didn’t get sick, they were calm in nature, and most importantly, the meat was tasty. And now this dream has come true. Karmaly is a breed of pigs, or rather a hybrid that has all these qualities.
Wonder Pig
The effect of heterosis in hybrid crosses is always a great success. When interbreeding, individuals always give more viable offspring. Here, too, the Karmaly pig hybrid, which was announced as a new breed, is a great success with pig breeders. Hybrid piglets will be born larger, grow quickly, are unpretentious in food, and do not get sick. The Karmala hybrid turned out to be very successful, he inherited the best qualities from the parents of two breeds, such as the Vietnamese fold-bellied (brazier) and the Korean herbivore. From the brazier, the Karmals got a decent weight, and from the Korean pig - fast growth, precocity and fertility.
How was the Karmal pig hybrid bred?
Karmaly is a unique breed of pigs. When breeding this hybrid, two types were obtained. Regular pocket when first crossed and royal pocket when recrossed.
- Regular karmal is obtained by crossing a Korean herbivorous pig and a boar mangal (Vietnamese). This species has all the benefits of heterosis, but the palatability of the meat is inferior to the royal karmal.
- Royal karmal is derived from deeper, repeated crosses. Here, on the contrary, a brazier sow is crossed with a Korean boar. The hybrid sows obtained by such mating are crossed with a mangal (Vietnamese) boar. As a result of such a mixture of a hybrid and a purebred brazier, a royal karmal is obtained. Such a pig has more mangal genes, which has a beneficial effect on the quality of meat. The meat of the royal karmal is considered a delicacy and is sold more expensive than regular meat.
What does Karmal pig look like?
Karmaly is a breed of pigs that looks like wild boars. They are large and shaggy. Their long hair is curly. Even the color of the pigs resembles small boars. So, often their body at an early age has longitudinal stripes. And the hair on them is as long as on the boars. Piglets-karmaly multi-colored. They are black, brown, red, gray and mottled. Juveniles are tall on legs and very mobile. Boars and sows are not as pot-bellied as barbecues. They are more fit, they have this from a Korean herbivore.
Pigs have absolutely no aggression, they do not fight among themselves and do not attack pets and birds. The long hair of animals allows us to live without a warm barn even in our harsh climate in winter. In the cold, both pigs and piglets are happy to walk on the street. It is enough to fence the paddock with a chain-link mesh. Karmals do not dig, they do not look for an opportunity to escape. They are curious animals, so they sometimes stand with their front feet on the fence to see what is outside the fence. In free-range, the family keeps together as a herd all the time, as do wild boars.
Karmaly pigs: reviews of pig breeders
Karmals are very popular with farmers and amateur pig breeders. Everyone who decided to have these wonderful pigs in their backyard was very pleased with their choice of a new breed of piglets.
At the age of one month, piglets are already quite independent, they eat everything (porridge, grass, vegetables). Animals gain weight quickly. They do not get sick, it is not necessary to do vaccinations, it is only desirable to carry out prophylaxis against worms, skin pests and diseases. This breed grows well on free range, from the second month of life it can generally live without a roof over its head. With age, the stripes on the back of the piglets disappear, and they acquire an adult color. When choosing this breed of piglets, you need to pay attention to the appearance of the animal. The eyes should shine, the coat should be free of bald spots, the tail should be dry and upturned. The pig should be active and have a good appetite.
The amazing fertility of Karmals
At 4 months, pigs reach puberty and can bear offspring. Therefore, if there is a breeding boar in the herd, the first offspring of the sow is brought at the age of 8 months. Farrowing does not cause trouble for the owner, the pig itself copes with everything. Surprisingly prolific breed. Karmaly is a pig breed that produces up to 20 he althy piglets in one farrow. Moreover, the piglets are large, newborn, they look like three-week-old babies of the Korean herbivore breed. It is wonderful that the mother has enough milk for everyone, they do not need additional care from the owner. After a week, the piglets begin to eat grass, and after two - porridge. At the age of one month, piglets can be separated from the sow. The sow goes into heat again and can become pregnant with new offspring. With intensive use of the sow, 50 piglets or more can be obtained from her per year.
What to feed the pigs?
Karmal hybrid pigs are unpretentious in food. In summer, they can be free-range all day long. In the evening, feed with porridge or vegetables. These pigs can eat crushed grain, food scraps and still gain weight well. In winter, they are given hay and fodder or sugar beets and, of course, cereals. Maybe pig feed. In general, how to feed the pigs, the owners do not particularly bother. Fattening pigs of this type is several times cheaper than traditional breeds.
With any fattening, even the most intensive, pigs of the Karmal breed do not form a thick layer of fat. Maximum - a small layer of subcutaneous fat. Karmaly - a breed of pigs, which is valued forhigh palatability of meat. It is tender, juicy, non-greasy, in general, a real delicacy.
