The Flanders rabbit breed is one of the oldest, recognized and widespread in the world. Its origin has not been precisely established, there are several versions. To date, in many countries that are massively engaged in rabbit breeding, their own breeds have been bred, which are offshoots of the main one: giant flanders,

German giant, Spanish giant. They do not differ much from each other, but each is adapted specifically to the region in which it is bred. The common thing is a decent mass of rabbits with an elongated body.

In our country, the most popular breed is the Giant Flanders. It is notable for the fact that the mass of an adult individual is on average 7 kg (sometimes 10 kg specimens are also found) with a body length of about 65 cm. The head is large, proportional to the body. The chest girth is about 40 cm. The breed of Flanders rabbits is distinguished by vertically standing large (up to 25 cm in length) dense, well-pubescent ears. Fur color can be black, grey, sand, blue, white, silver or fawn. The coat is thick, dense, about 3 cm long.

Females are famous for their high milk production. In one round, on average, there are 8 rabbits(sometimes 16). Sexual maturity comes late, at 9 months, unlike other breeds that can produce offspring at the age of 5 months.

Breed rabbit Flanders meat. Unfortunately, she is prone to respiratory diseases, which discourages many rabbit breeders from industrial breeding. In addition, giants require large cages.

On the plot you can keep them under a canopy or in a barn. Males should live in separate cages. Females 2-3 individuals in a cage with a uterine compartment. Young growth lives in groups until maturity, then sits down. Cells can be placed in one row or several. It is important that there is enough time and energy to serve all the livestock. Flanders rabbits are not afraid of cold weather. Breeding is possible only in the absence of drafts and with the exception of the likelihood of heat stroke.

The breed of Flandre rabbits is unpretentious in food. You can feed them only from the garden, but the weight gain will not be optimal. They definitely need to include special compound feeds in the diet. Quality hay and fresh water should be available at all times. Grass should be given selectively, excluding poisonous ones, preferably dried. Branches of oak, birch, aspen, alder are useful to them.

Before buying rabbits, you need to make inquiries about the farm, it is advisable to go and see (if they let you in) how the Flandre rabbit breed is kept and bred. The price of an individual will be based on the age and color of the fur. A monthly bunny can cost from 700 to1500 rubles, two-month-old - from 1400 to 3000, that is, the price of a month-old cub is multiplied by age. You can buy adults by spending more money, or you can buy kids by raising them yourself. The choice depends on the desire, opportunities and goals.

Interestingly, in America, the Flanders rabbit breed is often a pet kept in apartments and houses. They are loved just like our cats, because they are calm, friendly and smart. For this, they are more often compared with dogs than with decorative relatives.
