Among the banknotes ever issued by the Bank of Russia, the most demanded are considered to be thousandth denominations of 1000 and 5000 rubles. However, they are also the most problematic, since they are most often forged by attackers.
According to experts, fraudsters go to gas stations, car washes, service stations, small shops and other organizations to exchange counterfeit money, where the workflow is streamlined, and there is no way to check bills for authenticity. But it is not always necessary to use expensive equipment for this. How to check without it, we will tell later in the article.
Banknote of 1000 rubles close-up
The 1997 banknote was first put into circulation in early January 2001. The size of the thousandth banknote corresponded to 157 x 69 mm. It is made of high quality cotton paper. on which there were drawings in the form of a monument to Yaroslav the Wise, a chapel and the Kremlin of the city of Yaroslavl in the background (on the front side of the banknote), a bell tower and the church named after John the Baptist (on the reverse side).
The banknote is presented in blue-green color. It contains several machine-readable securityproperties, and is also distinguished by the presence of the emblem of the Bank of Russia. According to the rules, the latter is applied using a special paint (OVI).
Security marks on the thousandth note
In order to avoid counterfeiting, the representatives of the bank endowed each sample of a thousandth note with a certain degree of protection. For example, during the manufacture of each banknote, light green and red fibers were introduced, presented in a certain sequence and followed by alternation of yellow and red colors.
Another type of banknote protection is the addition of a transparent security line containing a repeating set of words. However, you can see it only when viewing a banknote in the light. In addition, watermarks present on the right and left sides (on the banknote margins) act as reliable security elements.
2004 1000th note modification
In 2004, the old thousandth note underwent certain changes. During its development, new methods of protection were involved. For example, a vertical inscription appeared: “Modification 2004”.
Besides this, the coat of arms of the city of Yaroslavl on the banknote was covered with the same special paint as the emblem of the bank on the banknote of 1997. Among other changes introduced during the production of 1000 rubles, one can also highlight:
- embedding several colors into paper at once - light green, red and gray;
- adding a diving metallic thread;
- change of printing of the emblem of the bank (she acquired embossedoutlines and done in green);
- adding a digital designation of the denomination made by microperforation;
- appearance of a field with hidden moiré stripes;
- changing the printing of a digital value (done in gray ink);
- changing the ornamental multicolor stripe;
- introduction of new signs recognizing cars (determined by ultraviolet radiation).
As you can see, the updated thousandth bill (you can see its photo in the article) has not changed much compared to the 1997 sample. However, she acquired a number of additional signs to help distinguish bank money from a fake.
Modification of the 2010 thousandth note
The next modification of 1000 rubles took place in August 2010. In particular, she touched on the color design. In general, the design of the previous 2004 remained. Additionally, the inscription "Modification of 2010" appeared on the front side of the paper. Among other innovations displayed on banknotes, the following can be distinguished:
- appearance of gray and two-tone security fibers;
- appearance of a wide security thread;
- appearance of a combined watermark in the coupon field area;
- application of the coat of arms of the city of Yaroslavl with special magnetic paint with additional visual effects;
- appearance of thin embossed strokes on coupon fields;

- appearance of a new element with smallcolored stripes (located at the bottom of the bill);

In addition, the 2004 1000th note received additional UV-visible characters.
General information about the five thousandth banknote
The banknote entered circulation in July 2006. Its size was equivalent to 1000 rubles. It was made on high quality white cotton paper. On it you can see light green, gray, red and alternating blue-red fibers. Also on the money of this series there are watermarks (on the margins on the right and left) and a security thread with a hologram.
From the front side of the 5 thousandth bill contains a drawing of the monument to N. N. Muravyov-Amursky and the picturesque embankment of Khabarovsk. On the back of the money you can see a bridge passing through the Amur River. Brown-red prevails in the color scheme of the banknote.
What security marks were present on the money in 2006?
At the time of issuing the five thousandth banknote, the Bank of Russia introduced the following types of protection:
- hidden moiré stripes on margins;

- use of polarization effect coating (when applying the bank logo);
- use of digital denomination designation;

- increase the first digits in the serial number from left to right.
As you can see from the list,5000 banknotes of 2006 had reliable protection. However, this did not stop the attackers. According to experts, along with 1,000-ruble banknotes, 5,000 rubles were targeted by fraudsters. In order to reduce the number of fakes, the Bank of Russia carried out a new modification procedure.
Modification of the 2010 five thousandth note
September 2011 was the next period of modification of 5000 rubles according to the bank's plan. What has changed? If you pay attention to the new money, you can find a lot in common with the 1997 samples. However, unlike them, the combination of primary colors has changed in the updated banknotes. For example, brighter shades have been replaced by calmer pastel colors.
In addition, the 5,000-ruble banknotes were supplemented with the following insignia:
- the presence of thin embossed strokes at the edges of the fields;
- moiré stripes with an additional colored segment;
- combined watermark;
- the emblem of the city of Khabarovsk with an optical variable and the effect of shifting the image when changing its position;
- the presence of additional elements with magnetic properties.
Simple methods for checking banknotes for authenticity
Despite all the efforts of the bank, banknotes of 1000 and 5000 rubles continue to be counterfeited. And even if this happens much less often than before, there is always the possibility of acquiring a worthless fake. But how to check a thousandth bill? Whether it is 1000 or 5000 rubles, it will not be difficult to check them. In particular, you can use the simplemethods.
So, the first thing to do is to carefully examine the money received. One of the most common signs of a fake, according to bank representatives, is the presence of uneven font and poor-quality printing. The second sign is considered to be fuzzy or completely absent rendering of image details.
The third important point is when the paper used to print money has a different density. According to experts, such a difference can be determined by examining thousandth bills in the light. And, of course, you should pay special attention to the presence of watermarks, emblems and protective colored hairs. In addition, there are other verification methods that are specific to each banknote separately. We will tell you more about them.
How can I check the thousandth bill?
Holding a banknote of 1000 rubles, pay attention to the coat of arms of the city of Yaroslavl. On real money, you can see a horizontal iridescent strip located in the middle. If the bill is rotated, then this strip should move up or down (relative to its original position).
The second thing to look at is the year of the thousandth bill. On the original, you will see 1997. And when the bill is exposed to light, you will see the year of modification - 2004 or 2010. The third sign of authenticity is the presence of a watermark in the form of a portrait of Yaroslav the Wise (on the white field of the banknote).
It is also necessary to carefully feel the inscription "ticket of the Bank of Russia" and adjacent strips to it. Since the inscription was created for people withdisabilities, the text and stripes are embossed. You can easily feel them with your fingers. In addition, carefully look at the uniform green field of the banknote. When tilted, yellow and blue stripes can be seen against its background.
And finally, upon closer examination, the drawing of the building, located on the right side of the chapel, consists of small graphic pictures and inscriptions.
How to check the five thousandth bill?
The five-thousandth banknote also has its security marks. For example, if the banknote is tilted to the side, then the image of the coat of arms on it will change its crimson color to golden green. The second important point is that when tilting the banknote, pay attention to the one-color field (located between the inscriptions "5000" and "Khabarovsk"). Against its background, as a rule, rainbow stripes appear.
The third sign is the presence of watermarks on the margins of the banknote. On the one hand, this is “5000”, and on the other, a portrait of N. N. Muravyov-Amursky. Next, take a close look at the security thread. With real money, it is not all hidden under paper, but partially protrudes, forming a kind of mother-of-pearl dotted line. In addition, when viewing it in the light, you can see the bright number 5000 on a uniform dark background.
Now you know how to check the authenticity of the money. According to the representatives of the bank, only three signs are enough to make sure that the banknote is real.
