Many office workers have an ink pad on their desk, designed to soak the stamp in special ink. Even if it is not immediately visible, we can safely say that it is present, because in modern stamping equipment this device is hidden from view.
Purpose
Office and office workers who deal with seals, stamps and numerators simply need an ink pad for printing. It delivers uniform and crisp prints that guarantee meticulous precision in paper-based cases.
These pads are also used for decorative purposes. Their porous surface contains a certain amount of paint, which is able to change the color of different materials. Craftsmen have learned to use this very well.
Without stamp pads, the use of seals becomes impossible. Therefore, since the time of their invention for several millennia, this device has remained an indispensable assistant to people responsible for order in business.
Diversity of species
So alreadyit happened that each manufacturer tried to improve this unpretentious attribute of the desktop. Probably, many still remember the Soviet sponges with stamp paint, which simply dripped from the seals and left sloppy marks on documents, fingers, clothes.
A lot has changed since then. A replaceable stamp pad has appeared, which is used in automatic equipment. It does not require refilling and can produce between 5,000 and 10,000 impressions, depending on its quality. The opposite of it is a desktop pillow, which is designed for hand prints. But this is no longer a sponge, but a special porous material that does not even show that it has been saturated with a special liquid.
There are also single-color and multi-color pillows. Multi-colors are applicable only in automatic stamps. They must not be refilled as there is a risk of color mixing.
There are also pillows with paint for official use and handmade. The latter are rich in shades, which is unacceptable in official business.
Types of seals
Which ink pad is preferred depends on the type of stamps used. The simplest is manual printing. Everyone in life at least once saw how it is dipped in paint and imprinted. This is a cheap option that is mainly used for temporary purposes. And all because such seals are inconvenient in storage and transportation. Their surface constantly dries out, and the recesses are clogged with dried paint, which makes the prints fuzzy.
It's more practical to use automatic rigging. This is a special device in which a stamp with an impression is hidden. To leave a mark on the surface, just put the device in the right place and press it from above. The system will automatically turn the print in the right direction and give a clear print.
In such a device, the stamp is in constant contact with the paint. It doesn't dry out or clog.
Paints used
You always need to know which ink pads to buy. The paint that is used to fill them plays a significant role.
The most common is water-based stamp ink. It gives a clear rich color when used on paper surfaces. In this case, the material should be as porous as possible so that the water is absorbed and evaporated fairly quickly. Office paper ideally meets these requirements.
Alcohol ink is used when the surface to be stamped is completely incapable of absorbing liquids. These are metal, plastic, wood, glass. After leaving the impression, the alcohol evaporates in a matter of seconds. This makes it possible to obtain an inkmark that is resistant to abrasion and smearing.
Oil-based paints are the least commonly used. They are completely unsuitable for use in offices, as they leave a greasy mark that can go through several sheets of paper. But in production, this paint is indispensable. The mark left by it on a non-porous surface is quite difficult to remove. Some connoisseursbelieve that it is generally impossible.
Rules for using ink pads
First of all, you need to remember that this device is saturated with easily evaporating liquids. Therefore, the ink pad for printing should always be closed. It is also worth keeping it away from sources of heat radiation: radiators, heaters, kettles and direct sunlight. Otherwise, it will dry out over time. Most modern models are contraindicated in refueling. From this, the pillows lose their properties and begin to leave blots along with the prints.
If the pillow can be refilled, then for these purposes it is necessary to use only the recommended stamp ink of the same shade as the pillow. The ideal option would be if both the paint and the pillow are from the same manufacturer. In this case, it is easy to avoid the conflict of shades and ingredients.
Keep the pillow free of foreign dyes or other debris such as dust or water. If you follow all the rules, then the device will serve you much longer than 10,000 prints.
Colour richness
Regulatory documents prescribe what type of seal and stamp should correspond to one or another color. Therefore, no one in the workflow uses paint at their own discretion.
The most common colors are blue and black. Most official round seals are imprinted in blue. Black is more common in corner square stamps, enumerators and daters.
Prohibition sealsand rejection stamps are usually red. It is also used by some non-governmental medical organizations, such as the Red Cross.
But permission stamps are usually made in green. There is some symbolism in this: the color green always opens the way for those who need it.
For some organizations and departments, it is prescribed to use prints of several colors. There are black and red, blue and red, red, blue and green. For these purposes, a special stamp pad is used, which is pre-divided by the manufacturer into sectors that prevent mixing colors.
For needlework purposes
Recently, a type of needlework has appeared, which is called scrapbooking. Its purpose is the production of postcards, calendars, albums and notebooks. It uses a variety of materials and techniques to achieve maximum decorative effect.
Stamp pads for scrapbooking have become very popular among needlewomen. They differ from office ones not only in the richness of colors, but also in some design features.
First of all, these pillows are used to tint surfaces. Therefore, the spongy substance protrudes slightly above the edge of the box. The manufacturers also took care of the ergonomics of the packaging, since the box itself often has to be held in hands. Those who have mastered this art are unlikely to ever give it up.
Where to buy?
GoodThe ink pad should only be sold in a specialized store. In the markets, this device may cost less, but it is not a fact that its service life will be at least half of that declared in company stores.
For scrapbooking, pillows are sold mainly in needlework departments. Although in recent years, even some stationery companies are willing to offer craftswomen the opportunity to add new stamp colors to their collection.
