The workstation has certain characteristics. Among them are the following:

- a set of software, information and technical means is available to the user;

- computer technology is located directly at the user's workplace;

- there is the possibility of continuous improvement of automated data processing processes in a certain field of activity;

- data processing is carried out by the user;

- the presence of an interactive mode of interaction between the user and the computer both in the process of designing management tasks and their solution.

Automated workplace can be assigned to a certain class depending on the following features:

- by area of use (in scientific activities, design, production and technological processes and organizational management;

- by the type of computer equipment used;

- depending on the mode of operation (network, group or individual);

- for qualification training of users (professional or non-professional).
