The Krasny Oktyabr plant in Volgograd is one of the largest and high-tech metallurgical enterprises in the region. Here, special grades of steel are smelted, which are so necessary for the automotive industry, armaments, the production of rockets and aviation equipment, for petrochemical enterprises, research institutes and laboratories. This is the only such enterprise in the south of Russia.

The plant in Volgograd began its career way back in 1897. The Tsaritsyno metallurgical plant (as it was originally called) had a convenient location on the Volga, and after its opening it was a significant competitor to the Ural iron-working manufactories. In 1910, up to 8.5 million poods of high-quality steel were smelted at the enterprise.

After the revolution, the plant was nationalized and in 1922 it was given the current name "Red October". In the 30s, the reconstruction and replacement of the obsoleteequipment. By the end of the decade, it was already one of the most technically equipped production facilities in the USSR. The company has partly retained the title of the flagship of metallurgy to the present day. Today, its shops produce about 900 grades of special steels, more than half a thousand types of rolled products. A third of the country's stainless steel grades are smelted here.

The history of the Barricades software goes back to 1914. After the outbreak of the First World War, the army faced a shortage of ammunition and weapons. The government and the military department decided to create a number of new weapons enterprises, one of which was built in Tsaritsyn.

Throughout its history, the plant in Volgograd produced mainly military products. With the beginning of World War II, the company increased production. Especially the army needed artillery, partially lost during the retreat at the initial stage of the war. Up to 1000 guns were assembled here per month. But when the Germans were on the outskirts of Stalingrad, the main facilities were evacuated to Altai.

Today, on the basis of the plant, there is a research and production center of JSC "Titan-Barricades", whose tasks include the development of:

  • Large caliber artillery weapons.
  • Launchers (PU) for tactical missile systems.

Once the legendary plant in Volgograd, which gained fame during the Soviet era, but did not survive the realityour days. In 1926, Stalingrad was chosen as a site for the construction of the first domestic large-scale tractor enterprise. Agriculture was in dire need of mechanized equipment, on June 17, 1930, the first 30-horsepower STZ-1 tractor left the factory assembly line. A year later, more than a hundred pieces of much-needed equipment were assembled in his workshops per day.

With the beginning of the war, the factory workers were able to arrange repairs, and later the manufacture of T-34 tanks, as well as engines for them. Production did not stop even under the bombing and shelling of the fascist army approaching Stalingrad. Only when the fighting spread directly to the territory of the plant, the work of the shops was suspended.

After the war, civilian production continued here. The basis was made by powerful caterpillar tractors of the DT series. Unfortunately, in the early 2000s, the Volgograd Tractor Plant faced intractable financial problems, and in 2007 the enterprise was abolished.
