When moving to Spain for study or a residence permit, Russian emigrants often face the need to confirm their educational documents. It is widely believed that homologation is a confirmation of a diploma. However, this is not the case.
Recognition of a Russian diploma of education in Spain
Many people moving to Spain have difficulty verifying their education because they often get confused between three different procedures to prove it. Homologation, which means "attestation" (from the word homologación), convalidation, i.e. equating the Russian subjects passed with the Spanish ones, and legalizing the diploma, i.e. its legalization.
Understanding the differences between these three procedures is very important, otherwise you can lose time and money. Therefore, it is best to immediately decide what kind of confirmation you need.
For study, convalidation of subjects or full legalization of a diploma is needed, but for work, depending on the employer, only homologation of qualifications may be needed. The homologation procedure takes up to a year, and inas a result, the applicant for this procedure receives a certificate of degree or qualification.
Speci alty homologation
To get a job in Spain in your speci alty, you need to provide a diploma of education. Or at least confirm the qualifications - carry out the homologation procedure (we figured out what it is above), which will allow you to attest to the speci alty assigned in a higher educational institution in Russia.
To homologate a diploma in Spain, you need to apply to their education department (Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports). In response, you can receive both a full confirmation of the speci alty (in this case, a special signed certificate of conformity is issued), or a partial one, with a recommendation to take additional subjects at a Spanish university.
It may also happen that the applicant will be denied homologation. In this case, it would be appropriate to request recognition of higher education without a specific speci alty in order to be able to work in related fields.
Item convalidation
Sometimes the convalidation of academic subjects is also needed, it is required for passing with partial homologation. Few people know that this is a prerequisite for legalization. Consideration of disciplines may be necessary if the hours in the Russian and Spanish educational institutions required for mastering the course do not match.
Often this is paid attention to when continuing their studies at a Spanish university. The Ministry of Education proposeslisten to a certain number of hours at a university in Spain, in addition to those already taken, or take a new similar discipline, if there is no full compliance.
So, convalidation affects certain disciplines, and homologation is the recognition of an existing speci alty.
Legalization of diploma
But the procedure for legalizing a diploma (or its full legalization) already implies confirmation of the full compliance of a Russian diploma with the Spanish educational system.
To do this, first of all, you need to request from the Russian Ministry of Education an apostille for a diploma and an insert, and then it needs to be translated from officially accredited translators in Spain, or at the Spanish consulate.
The translated documents should be copied and given to the educational institution (or to the controlling educational authorities), while showing the original documents. Please note that documents will not be returned, so only copies should be submitted for review, but originals may be needed to verify authenticity.
