Load lifting equipment are special machines that are subject to special requirements in terms of their technical capabilities and ensuring the safety of maintenance and operating personnel. This article will discuss a unit called the pneumatic wheel crane KS-4361 A. Such attention is riveted to it for a number of reasons, because its long-term service has shown how effective it is in the process of loading and unloading, construction, installation and some other types of work.

KS-4361 A is not just a crane, but, in fact, a whole range of lifting devices created on pneumatic wheels, capable of working with a weight of up to 16 tons. The cranes of this series were produced until very recently, starting in the 1970s. At the same time, more than 16,000 units of this equipment were created over the entire period of production. As practice has shown, the machine has proven itself ideally both in temperate climates and in the most northern and harsh regions, where the ambient temperature sometimes drops below -60 degreesCelsius.
Existing modifications
Crane KS-4361A, the characteristics of which will be given below, is based on the models K-161 and K-161C, produced for the temperate and polar climatic zones.
KS-4361C is a model for the northern regions where the ambient temperature can reach -60 °C. The metal structure of this machine is made of low alloy steel, while the tires and sealing elements are made of frost-resistant rubber.
KS-4361AT is a machine specially designed for operation in the tropical zone.

Crane KS-4361A, the technical characteristics of which are relevant to this day, is endowed with the following indicators:

A few words about the scheme of the machine
The characteristics of the crane KS-4361A will, of course, be incomplete if you do not provide a description of its device. At the heart of the unit is a welded metal frame with a pair of bridges, both of which are driven. The front axle is mounted on a balancing support, and this, in turn, allows you to increase the grip of the wheels with the underlying surface. The wheel alignment angle is changed by hydraulic cylinders. The rear axle is equipped with a rigid suspension. In the center of the frame is a two-speed manual gearbox. Torque is transmitted to the axles through cardan shafts. Axle gearboxes are fitted with both bevel and spur gears.
Side frames KS-4361A are equipped with outriggers with screw jacks. The installation and folding of these units occurs through the use of the hydraulic system of the crane. In general, the supports can significantly increase the stability of the entire machine and its load capacity. On top of the frame there is a turntable with the main working units of the crane. The connection of the frame with the platform is carried out using a double-row ball shoulder strap with a ring gear.
Each of the crane bridges have differentialdevices that allow the right and left wheels to rotate at different angular speeds.
Power plant
Crane KS-4361A is equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine with a power of 75 horsepower. The name of the motor is SMD-14A. The crankshaft of the power plant is coupled through an elastic coupling with a turbotransformer, which, in turn, makes it possible in a certain range of operating speeds of the entire crane. The compressor of the pneumatic system is mounted independently of the motor. The transmission of torque occurs with the help of a V-belt transmission. The compressor is cooled by a special fan.
Detailing
Crane KS-4361A has gear and claw clutches equipped with a hydraulic drive. Lifting units are driven by a combined system that includes both pneumatics and hydraulics. Winches start their work due to pneumochamber clutches, the reverse drive works in the same way. Stopping the rotation of the drums and rigid fixation in a given position is possible due to the presence of band brakes.
A characteristic feature of the crane is that the drums of the boom drive, load hook and grapple are mounted on the same shaft.
The electrical equipment of the hoisting machine is used to provide outdoor and indoor lighting, turn on and off sound and light alarms, activate limit switches, start the engine, heat and ventilate.
Swivel mechanism
Shouldnotice that the swivel mechanism is powered by the same engine as the rest of the components and parts of the entire crane. Bevel gears are fixed on the reverse shaft, which, in turn, engages the gear wheel of the reverse rotation mechanism.
A ball bearing is mounted on top of the vertical shaft, which perceives a radial load, and a thrust and spherical double-row ball bearings are mounted on the bottom.
The crane turntable rotates as the pinion travels around the internal gear ring.
Safety and Operator Workplace
The crane operator's console is located directly in the crane cab. The user activates the necessary mechanisms with the help of levers and handles. To ensure the required level of protection for the driver, the machine uses a boom lift limit switch, a load limiter and a boom reach indicator.
Subtleties of operation
Absolutely any KS-4361A crane, where it is easy for everyone to find the frame number, is a rather dangerous machine in the process of use and transportation. Therefore, the unit must be transported by road using a towing tractor at a speed of no more than 20 km/h. In the process of towing on a crane, it is imperative to turn on a neutral gear, remove the cardan shaft on one of the bridges and turn off the turn cylinders. If the process of transportation of KS-4361A is planned by rail, then in this case the crane should be disassembled into separatelarge knots and details. To do this, the pneumatic running wheels are dismantled, the boom is certainly removed, disassembling it into sections. The transportation itself is carried out on a four-axle platform.
Within the boundaries of the construction site and over short distances (up to 50 kilometers), the crane can easily move on its own, both with the boom in the transport position and with a fixed load. In this case, the driving speed should be no more than 3 km / h. The working boom is always located along the longitudinal axis of the machine.
