Social workers are people who take care of vulnerable people

Social workers are professionals who provide assistance and support to some vulnerable or completely vulnerable segments of the population. These categories may include such citizens: pensioners, lonely old people, the disabled, refugees, children from dysfunctional families, orphans or refuseniks. In other words, that part of the population that is experiencing certain difficulties in finding employment, as well as people who have received work-related injuries. Social workers are people whose activities are aimed at improving the material and living conditions of the citizens entrusted to them, while ensuring their social and legal protection.

Main functional duties of a social worker:

- tracking and identifying individuals who need their help, as well as monitoring and advising them;

- holding receptions, consultations and conversations;

- regular visits to the location of the ward, monitoring his life andliving conditions in which he is;

- determination of the nature and extent of one's own intervention in case of problematic issues;

- coordinating and supervising the activities of some social structures (for example, contacting law enforcement agencies or medical institutions);

- buying medicines, food and everyday goods;

- providing basic medical care.

In social security committees, social service centers, nursing homes, veterans' councils and other similar institutions, important work is directly carried out by such specialists. A social worker may be on the staff of the above organizations or work on a voluntary basis. Such organizations may include psychological assistance services and pension fund branches.

Social workers are people with certain professional skills, which can be classified as:

- knowledge of the legal foundations, provisions and acts that regulate some social relations;

- knowledge of a certain complex of such sciences as medicine, psychology, economics and sociology;

- ability to provide assistance in matters relating to employment and career guidance;

- business skills.

Social workers are specialists whose place of work and occupation directly depend on their education. For example, facesthose involved in jurisprudence must have a degree in law, and consultants on the helpline must have a diploma in psychology. When caring for the sick and lonely, workers should have a medical background.

The profession of "social worker" is marked by the relevant decree of the President of the Russian Federation, according to which June 8 is their professional day.

It should be noted that today the need for social workers has increased significantly. This fact is confirmed by the appearance in educational institutions of such speci alties as social psychologist and social pedagogue.
