The start of the journey

The history of the Sverdlov plant began in 1915. On June 18, the Military Council of the Russian Empire decided to build a new state-owned explosives plant. The construction site was determined by the Nizhny Novgorod province. According to the master plan, production shops were built simultaneously with houses for workers, a school, shops, churches and other infrastructure.

The change of government in 1917 did not stop construction. On the contrary, the nascent Red Army was in dire need of ammunition. The plant, which received the name of Sverdlov, forced work, the first production of TNT was launched. Thanks to the new explosive material, the efficiency of the extractive industries (especially in the production of coal) and in construction (when laying tunnels, canals, large-scale earthworks) has increased. Nizhny Novgorod plant for theseMerit in 1924 was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.

On guard of the motherland

With the beginning of the Second World War, the enterprise had a special responsibility - to continuously supply the Red Army with ammunition and explosives. During this period, the plant expanded production, enriched the range of military products, introduced new developments. In general, he made a significant breakthrough in development. For example, every second artillery shell and every third air bomb was fired by the Sverdlov plant.

During the years of the Second World War, more than 1,500 employees were awarded orders, medals, valuable gifts, certificates of honor for labor heroism, and the enterprise itself was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

From war to peace

In the post-war years, the Sverdlov plant experienced several conversions. Peaceful products were actively mastered, assimilated industries developed, dual-use goods were produced. Automated control systems were introduced in the workshops, the auxiliary base of the enterprise was expanded. In parallel, modern equipment complexes and unique production of explosives were developed. For labor merits in 1971, the government awarded the team with the third Order of the October Revolution.

Since 1972, the plant has launched the production of HMX, becoming the flagship of the military industry of the USSR. Experimental technologies were worked out here, which were further introduced in other specialized industries.

New time

By 2000, the era of the "arms race"ended. FKP "Plant named after Sverdlov" today updated production facilities in order to expand and diversify products. A significant volume is occupied by products for the oil and gas, mining, and construction industries.

The plant is a unique combination of science and high production culture. FKP has its own scientific and technical center. It occupies 3,500 m2 of pilot production and laboratory space. Together with the design bureau, dozens of innovative technologies have recently been developed and introduced into production.

Zavod im. Sverdlov (Dzerzhinsk) has preserved social and cultural facilities: the Palace of Culture, a sanatorium, a sports and recreation complex, a camp site, a medical unit, a he alth camp for children, a hostel, a hotel, a network of canteens. Over the years, thousands of factory workers have been awarded significant government awards and high ranks.

Description

The Ya. M. Sverdlov plant is an industrial site with a thousand buildings with an area of about 1100 hectares. The production equipment complies with the generally accepted safety standards SRPP VT and ISO9001. To reduce the costs of energy-intensive operations, they built their own thermal power plant and water treatment system.

Inland, more than 90 km of railways and 120 km of roads have been laid. The mobile fleet includes 900 railway wagons and 200 vehicles. Products are delivered, including by water: there are 3 ships on the balance sheet of the enterprise.

Profile

Plant nameSverdlov (Dzerzhinsk) is a wide-profile association, on the territory of which military and civilian production facilities operate. Released here:

  • Explosives for industry and the army. Occupy 30% of the plant's production.
  • Chemical products (35%).
  • Defense products (30%).
  • Engineering products (5%).

In addition, the disposal of ammunition from 32 to 152 mm by the hydrodynamic method and liquid rocket fuel is carried out. The resulting components are reused in the industrial cycle.

Explosives and ammunition

The Sverdlov plant is the only one in the Russian Federation that produces a full range of high explosives, compositions and products based on them. In production they produce:

  • HMX brand octogen, which is an important component of rocket solid propellant. Also used in the manufacture of shaped charges and detonating cords.
  • RDX grade RDX. Included in the explosive compositions of aerial bombs, high-powered ammunition, charges for explosive equipment and perforators.
  • Pentaerythritoltetranitrate - a substance for explosive mixtures, blasting caps and cords.
  • TNT. available as granulate or flake.

On their basis, the plant also manufactures end products: shaped charges, shaped charge torpedoes, detonator cartridges, TNT cartridges, etc. Modern ammunition production allows the production of fully finished ammunition. Companycooperates with specialized research institutes, constantly improving the characteristics of products.

For the metallurgical, oil and gas, mining industry, they produce:

  • shaped charges with glass, steel or plastic jackets;
  • TNT-containing checkers, ammonals and ammonites;
  • pressed shaped charges;
  • grammonites.

Chemical production

The Sverdlov Plant mastered a wide range of industrial chemistry:

  • epoxy resins;
  • phenol-formaldehyde resins;
  • acetic anhydride;
  • formalin;
  • ethyl acetate;
  • urea-formaldehyde concentrate4
  • red phosphorus;
  • nitrobenzene;
  • bakelite varnishes;
  • ceresin-100;
  • strontium nitrate;
  • polyacrylamide-gel;
  • other substances.

Finished products are also produced. For example, Ecocitat additive for diesel fuel, Arzamit-5 putty with chemically resistant properties, Litol-24 grease, grease, Sintec coolant and others.

Engineering

The list of engineering works is extensive - from welding and material processing to the production of technologically complex equipment. Among the main destinations:

  • Processing of blanks from non-ferrous metals, steel, cast iron, non-metal products.
  • Cutting, turning and milling (including CNC), drilling, grinding, sheet rolling, pipe bending, etc.
  • Heat treatment in chamber andshaft electric furnaces with heating temperatures up to 1000 C. They carry out hardening, tempering, normalization of metal products. HDTV installations carry out surface and through hardening, surfacing of hard-alloy components.
  • Machining complex surfaces and cutting workpieces along any path using the EDM method.
  • Manufacture of equipment, tooling and measuring tools for molding plastics and non-ferrous alloys.
  • Equipment for chemical production: tanks, heat exchangers, all-welded and trough columns.

Afterword

Zavod im. Sverdlov is a regime defense enterprise. The specifics of production does not allow to advertise new developments for military purposes, promising technologies, over which the best minds of the design and scientific and technical departments “conjure”. But one can say for sure - one of the largest associations of the military-industrial complex looks to the future with confidence.
