The ship destroyer "Fast" was built at the Zhdanov shipyard (SWZ) according to project 956 "Sarych".

In October 1989, the destroyer was adopted by the Navy of the Soviet Union. Currently, it is in the reserve of the 1st category of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet), however, it remains a constant participant in all types of exercises.

For excellent performance in combat training, the crew of the destroyer was repeatedly encouraged by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.

How a new class of ship appeared - the destroyer

At the end of the 19th century, a new weapon appeared - torpedoes (self-propelled mines). This forced the military to take care of the means of dealing with them and their carriers.

This tool was a universal high-speed ship, called the "destroyer". His task was to patrol the country's maritime borders in order to counter enemy aircraft, submarines (PL) and surface ships.

The destroyer is capable of operating not only alone, but also as part of a squadron. This feature is reflected in its additional name - "squadron".

For a long time the destroyer was the most "popular" warship in the world, but today, in a crisis, the cost of its construction significantly affects the number of ships of this class produced. They began to build less frequently.

Currently, the world fleet has about two hundred destroyers. At the same time, the US Navy has the largest number - 55 units, as well as about twenty destroyers are at US construction shipyards.

Great Britain has lost its former glory of the mistress of the seas and has 8 ships of this class.

The Russian Navy has six destroyers, three of which are part of the Pacific Fleet. The crew of the destroyer "Fast" adequately represents the Russian navy in the Pacific.

Project 956 "Sarych" of the USSR Navy

Destroyers of the "Sarych" project were built at the Leningrad Shipyard No. 190 named after Zhdanov (today - "Severnaya Verf"). It was planned to launch twenty units of warships. However, the collapse of the Soviet Union, which erupted in 1992, the financial crisis thwarted the plans of the Navy and shipbuilders. As a result, the completion of the previously laid down ships stopped, new destroyers were no longer laid down.

The only exception was orders from China. In the period from 1997 to 2000, the construction of two buildings of the 956-E project was completed by order of the Chinese Navy. Later, an order from China was completed for the construction of two more ships, but already under the export project 956-EM.

The construction of the destroyer "Fast" was also carried out under the project 956 "Sarych" (Modernny class destroyer, according to NATO classification).

"Fast" project "Sarych"

The destroyer "Fast" is the 11th destroyer of the twenty ships of the "Sarych" project planned by the Soviet Navy.

It was laid down at Shipyard No. 190 named after Zhdanov at the end of October 1985under building number 871. Left the stocks in 1987, at the end of November.

During this period, the destroyer "Fast" was part of the 13th brigade of ships under construction and repair of the Navy.

In the early autumn of 1989 (August-September), running and state tests passed. At the time of testing, he was in the 76th brigade of missile ships, based in Liepaja.

After successfully passing the tests, "Fast" was accepted by the Navy under the number 676.

At the end of October of the same year, the destroyer was commissioned into the Navy of the Soviet Union.

The main characteristics of the destroyer

The destroyer "Fast" (the 11th destroyer of project 956 "Sarych") has a standard displacement of 6500 tons, a total displacement of 7904 tons. The largest length and width of the ship are 156.5 m and 17.2 m, respectively.

The movement of the destroyer is provided by two GTZA-674 units with a total capacity of 100 thousand horsepower with the help of two five-bladed propellers.

GTZA-674 power units provide the destroyer with a maximum speed of 33.4 knots.

The area of operation depends on its regime and the provision of energy resources, that is, travel speed and fuel supply.

At maximum speed, the cruising range is 1345 miles, and when sailing in economy mode (18.4 knots), thisthe distance is 3920 miles.

With overloaded fuel, a ship can reach a target 4,500 miles away.

The cruise time of the destroyer "Fast" in autonomous mode can reach 30 days.

The armament of the destroyer "Fast"

The versatility of the destroyer is confirmed by its armament.

To counter enemy submarines and torpedoes, Bystry is equipped with two six-barreled RBU-1000 (rocket-bomb installations) Smerch, as well as mine and torpedo weapons.

Mine and torpedo armament of the ship is represented by two torpedo tubes with four SET-65 anti-submarine electric torpedoes of 533 mm caliber. A feature of torpedoes is their ability to homing to an underwater target.

The ship also carries a Ka-27 helicopter used for reconnaissance purposes.

Radio equipment"Fast"

A modern ship without radio equipment is helpless and blind. The destroyer "Fast-715" is equipped with radar stations (RLS) MP-710, MP-710-1, MP-750. Their viewing range is 145 km.

Radars allow you to control the air and surface situation, while detecting even small targets.

For over-the-horizon target designation (up to 200 km), the KRS-27 radar, part of the Most system, is used.

In the service of the Motherland

In 1989, the 175th brigade of missile ships of the Pacific Fleet was replenished with the destroyer "Fast" (project 956). Since that time, his service began on the eastern borders of the country.

In mid-June 1990, the destroyer was enlisted in the permanent readiness force. In the same month, the crew of the ship for the first time became a participant in the exercises in the B altic Sea. At the end of the exercises, the ship arrived in Tallinn, where more than a hundred foreign attachés visited it.

September 15 "Fast" set off on his way back home to the Pacific Fleet. The transition took about two months.

Already in mid-December 1990, the destroyer's crew was again on exercises - they took part in the testing of submarines in the Sea of Japan.

Summing up the results of 1990 showed that the ship is the best in terms of combat training in the conditions of the use of nuclear weapons.

In the spring of 1991, the destroyer was again on exercises. This time "Fast" defended the ships of the Pacific Fleet from attacks by aircraft and submarines of the "enemy".

In August of the same year, "Fast" participated in joint exercises held in the Sea of Japan. For the actions of the crewobserved by observers from 8 countries.

According to the results of 1991, the crew of the "Bystroy" won the 1st place according to the results of artillery firing among ships of the 1st rank.

In subsequent years, until December 1998, "Fast" participated in rescue operations, escorting the K-500 nuclear submarine from combat duty, official visits to China and South Korea.

In December 1998, the destroyer "Fast" was transferred to the reserve of the 1st category due to the poor condition of some of the main boilers. By the way, the unsatisfactory state of the destroyer's boiler facilities almost led to the death of the ship and its crew in September 2010.

For the sake of world peace

In June 2013, "Fast" as part of the detachment of the ships "Oslyabya" and "Kalar" took part in the military-historical "Campaign of Memory", dedicated to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the 282nd anniversary of the Pacific Fleet.

In May 2014, the Russian-Chinese exercises "Naval Interaction-2014" took place, which did not pass without the crew of the "Bystroy".

At the end of 2015, Russian-Indian exercises took place. The detachment of Russian ships also included the destroyer "Fast".

Merit of the Fast crew

Over the years of service, the destroyer "Fast" (Pacific Fleet), the photo of which is presented above, has been repeatedly noted by the Navy command as the best combat unit:

  • According to the results of 1991, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, the crew of the ship was awarded a prize for excellent artillery fire at seapurposes.
  • In September 1996, on the occasion of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet, the crew of the Bystry showed excellent preparation for rocket firing. The result of the shooting was the second prize of the Commander-in-Chief.
  • According to the results of 2013, the destroyer won 1st place among ships of ranks 1, 2 in the competition for destroying naval targets with missiles.
  • Summing up the results of 2014, "Bystroy" received the prize of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy for the competent and efficient use of the weapons available on the destroyer.
