But what kind of fabric is satin, what properties does it have, and how to care for it? Let's figure it out.
A bit of history
The first mention of this material dates back to the 2nd century AD. Translated from Arabic, it has the name "smooth". Even during the Middle Ages, only we althy people could afford to use this fabric.
This type of weaving was invented in China, after which it was exported through Central Asia and ended up in European countries and the Middle East. During the Renaissance, own production of atlas appeared in Europe. But only in the 16-17 centuries in Iran they learned how to make this material with really high quality.
In Russia in the Middle Ages, this fabric was called "otlos". It was used mainly for the manufacture of men's clothing, and only since the 20s of the last century this material has been widely used for various purposes. By the way, satin is a fabric thatenjoys great popularity today.
Composition
This is a material that consists of semi-silk or silk threads with a slight introduction of linen or wool weft. The yarn contains acetate and viscose fibers, making it 100% polyester.
Satin - a material that always has a shiny front surface, the wrong side of this fabric is always matte. The ratio of weft threads to the warp is at least 1:5, which gives it a special smoothness.

There are several types of this material. This fabric can be dense or thin, have a pattern or be plain, and there is also a satin with a moire effect.
Properties
Satin is a fabric that has excellent aesthetic properties, increased abrasion resistance, high strength and good drape. But, unfortunately, this material crumbles very easily and therefore is rather capricious in work. It does, however, provide a great fit.
Application
Satin is a fabric that has found its application both in the manufacture of clothing and in other areas. Nightgowns, bathrobes, skirts, blouses, sundresses and dresses are sewn from satin. Quite often it is also used as a lining material. It also makes excellent linens. This fabric is widely used in the interior as upholstery, for the manufacture of curtains and various draperies.
Care
Atlas - the fabric for which you needproperly care. It is recommended to wash products from this material at a temperature of 30 degrees by hand using a mild detergent. It cannot be rubbed and squeezed. After washing, it must be rinsed in cold water with the addition of a small amount of vinegar so that the color does not lose its brightness.
While ironing, the fabric needs to be slightly damp. The temperature of the iron should be 150 degrees. The product is ironed from the wrong side in the "silk" mode.
