Tractor T-40AM: description and purpose

Agriculture is one of the most labor-intensive areas of human activity. And therefore, the issue of mechanization of many works in this industry is particularly acute. This article will discuss a specialized machine called the T-40AM tractor.

Production

The unit was produced at the legendary Lipetsk Tractor Plant in the period 1961-1995. The car has been out of production for a long time now. Over the entire period of its existence, almost 1.2 million T-40AM units rolled off the assembly line. The base model for this tractor was the T-28.

Purpose

T-40AM was developed and to this day serves as a technique actively used for transporting a wide variety of products and cultivating the surface of the earth in greenhouse complexes, fields and gardens. It is also allowed to use the machine together with various attachments: dozer blade, mower, plow, stacker. The tractor functions without problems with trailers that were originally designed for other machines. The layout of the machine is semi-frame.

Features

T-40AM has the highest cross-country ability, which provides it with passage through various types of existing soil. This is made possible by the presence of a rigid suspension,increased diameter of the rear wheels and "herringbone" lugs. In addition, the machine allows, in case of need, to adjust the track and change its own ground clearance. If necessary, it is allowed to install rear wheels of a smaller diameter or to mount them “inside out” in order to widen the track. When making minor structural changes, it is possible to install double wheels. Also, the T-40AM, the front axle of which serves to significantly increase traction, easily overcomes impassability and calmly moves on moist soils during the planned work.

Engine

The T-40AM tractor is equipped with a reliable mechanical gearbox. The unit was produced with all-wheel drive and had an engine with a capacity of 50 horsepower. Motors mounted on a tractor were produced at the Vladimir Tractor Plant. The power plant was started using an electric starter.

The engine had an air and fuel supply system, a crank mechanism, a cooling system, a distribution mechanism, a starting element and an oil circuit.

On the left side of the engine there was a deflector, fuel units, pipelines. On the right side is the starter, injectors, generator, oil centrifuge. A fan and alternator pulley, an oil filler, a fan, a hydraulic pump and a meter that determines the number of engine hours were installed in the front. The fuel mode is adjusted using the throttle disc.

Prohibited actions

To ensure a long period of trouble-free operation of the T-40AM, several simple but mandatory requirements must be observed by the user:

• You can not heavily load the engine, which has just come out of a scheduled repair or has not gone through a full break-in cycle.
• It is forbidden to operate the unit with low oil pressure in the system.
• A long period of operation with an overloaded engine is not allowed.
• It is forbidden to turn on the motor without a cover on the fan.
• Use only recommended oils.
• Don't let the engine idle for a long time.
• It is forbidden to operate the engine when the temperature of the oil filled into the crankcase is below 55 degrees.
• The maximum allowable engine temperature is up to 105 degrees.

Dignity

The described tractor is endowed with the following positive qualities:

• Easy operation, reliability and durability.
• Good cross-country ability.
• Ease of maintenance.
• High agility regardless of driving speed.
• The ability to carry out the required work in reverse.
• Able to combine with attachments originally designed for other tractor models.

Negative sides

There are not so many shortcomings in this car, but still they are. Among them:

• Problematic heatingengine to normal temperature parameters during the cold season.
• The engine cooling system, which also leaves much to be desired.
• The driver's workplace, which is not comfortable. The cabin is cold in winter and hot in summer because there is no air conditioning.

Cost

Since the T-40AM, whose price is low, has been out of production for a long time, sellers do not overestimate its cost. To date, there are a lot of offers on the market for the sale of this technique. The average price of a tractor ranges from 80 to 100 thousand Russian rubles.

Despite the fact that the car has not been produced for more than two decades, the demand for it does not fall in our time. This is due to its perfect combination of quality, price and technical capabilities.
