Verification of a measuring instrument consists in the fact that metrological and other characteristics of certain items and their similarity with passport data are checked. Such actions are carried out by specially designated persons in a designated room, using specialized equipment. These actions are called - checking the scales.

Types of verifications

  1. Primary verification is carried out at the time of release of scales from production or after repair. Also, this procedure is carried out during import.
  2. Periodic verification applies to those verification tools that have already been put into operation. It is held once a year.
  3. Extraordinary verification is used when any technical damage occurs, also if the balance has been stored for a long time and then put into operation.
  4. Inspection verification is carried out during metrological supervision.

State verifications have the right to be carried out by specialists of federal agencies, who are engaged in technical coordination and belong to state trustees. In the event that the measuring instruments meet all the requirements, it is considered that they have been verified. If, as a result of verification, some problems were identified, then instead of a passport, a certificate is issued stating that the device is unsuitable for use. Such scales require repair or calibration. If the verification was successful, the owner retains the relevant certificate, and the imprint of the brand remains on the verified scales.

Steps of verification of bench scales

There are three stages in total. The first stage is verification without applying a load. At this stage, it is checked how correctly the scales are set, and how they react to an attempt to bring them out of balance. At the second stage, verification is carried out using a weight, the mass of which is approximately 1/10 of the load from the largest weighing limit. The weight is usually placed in the center and on the sides, while the readings must be equal to the mass of the weight. The third stage determines the accuracy with which the balance works, while taking into account the maximum load. In this case, the weight is installed only in the center, the sensitivity of the weight is not checked.

Checking the scales is carried out in two ways. The first is statistical. It provides for the measurement of the forces applied to the sensors being tested and the exposed sample. That is, this method applies to both exemplary and verified scales. The disadvantage of this verification method is that the resultsmay not be reliable. Another disadvantage of this method is that the device under test is not in operation. A dynamic method of verification of conveyor devices or devices of continuous action is the weighing of a control sample. The disadvantage of this method is that this process is very time consuming, while the verification result will be inaccurate. The products to be weighed must be in the bunker, which is simply unrealistic physically. Sample weights must also be present, which is not always possible. With this method, the balance will not be operated according to the staff schedule.

Checking electronic scales includes several stages of work: research and testing of the device, identification of metrological parameters, measurement of the variability of scales that are not subjected to loads. This also includes the recognition of the error in the readings of the instrument under test, the sensitivity of the scales. If the scales have not passed the appropriate verification, then they are not allowed for operation.

Checking the scales (the frequency of this procedure is once a year) is carried out in accordance with the legislative documents "On metrology and metrological activity". All scales in operation are subject to periodic verification.

The documents for the operation of the scales contain conditions that must be strictly observed. When checking the scales, they must clearly correspond to the working indicatortemperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure. During an external inspection, the absence of cracks and corrosion is usually established, all control items must be in place, according to the operating documents. If this is a crane device, then the passport must contain a certificate of its test for the strength of the crane hook. At the time of testing the scales, it is necessary to determine how good they are, whether the control apparatus is overloaded. During the determination of metrological boundaries, the variability of the readings of the scales is checked if they do not have any loads. Metrological boundaries are calculated by assessing weights of the 4th category. If the verification results turned out to be positive, then this is noted in the passport and an imprint of the brand is made on the scales, which indicates the suitability of the scales for operation. If the verification result is negative, then the scales are not applied.
