Many summer residents plant white cabbage, beloved by many, on their plots. However, not everyone at the end of the season gets to enjoy a good harvest. Most often, the reason is that not all amateur gardeners know how to properly water cabbage.

The water requirement of this crop depends on its age. When forming the fruit, watering the cabbage should be more intense than when building up the deciduous mass. It should not be planted in the lowlands, a glut of moisture may occur in the soil, which will harm the cabbage, its growth will slow down, various diseases may occur, and eventually the plant will die. After the roots of this crop have been in very wet soil for more than eight hours, they gradually begin to die off. Excess moisture just before harvesting can lead to cracking of heads of cabbage, so a month before full ripening, watering cabbage of late varieties should be stopped. There are three irrigation methods that every summer resident can use on his site. Which one suits you, choose for yourself.

The most common is watering cabbage onspecially made furrows, but it has its drawbacks. It should not be used on sandy and sandy soils. Immediately after planting, it is better not to use this method of watering, since the young and still weak roots of the plant will not reach the water, therefore, at this time it is better to add water to the root zone.

Sprinkling irrigation of cabbage can be used in any terrain and on any soil. The disadvantages of this method include the cost of electricity and the formation of a dense crust on the soil surface. On small plots of land, pulsating type installations can be used. Water is supplied to them under pressure with a hose. Now there are such models of these installations that can adjust the radius of capture of the water jet.

Drip irrigation method, more precisely drip irrigation, is considered new and more perfect. Water is supplied to each plant through hoses. Its amount is regulated using special devices - droppers. This method is extremely effective:

• it can be used on any soil and terrain;
• water is supplied pointwise - the aisles remain dry, which allows for various work;
• water only goes where it's needed.

This method also has one drawback - the high cost of such an installation.

Often beginner gardeners and gardeners ask the question: "How often to water the cabbage?" If the weather is hot and dry, then it is recommended to water it at leastafter eight days. If the soil contains a lot of sand, more frequent watering is required. You will be able to determine that the plant lacks moisture by a weak increase in green mass. The same sign may indicate a lack of nutrients. If the cabbage leaves turn pale, then it lacks nitrogen. If a purple color appears on the leaves and petiole, there is not enough phosphorus, dry spots on the leaves and a dry border indicate a lack of potassium. To fertilize the cabbage with all the nutrients at once, it is necessary to water it with a weak solution of manure with superphosphate.
