Pneumatic weapons are usually associated with pistols and rifles. Few people know, but there are also gas shotguns. Today we will discuss this particular type of weapon, namely the W alther SG9000 model from the well-known weapons company Umarex. This is to some extent a unique product, because it is almost the only one of its kind.

Overview

In appearance, gas weapons usually copy (as far as possible) firearm models. The Umarex SG9000 pneumatic shotgun did not become a copy of any particular combat rifle, but all the distinguishing features of this class are present in it. Belonging to a gas weapon gives out a light (about 1 kilogram) body of the model and a plastic coating.

The shotgun is pneumatic, but the energy source in it is not the usual 12-gram air cartridges, but more capacious - 88-gram cylinders. One such charge is enough to carry out from 800 to 1000 shots. You can shoot in single or triplemode. In the first case, the take-off charge speed will be 150 m/s, and in the second case, it will be half as much.

Accuracy

There are no stationary sighting elements on the weapon, but there is a Weaver rail that allows the owner to independently install any type of sight. Three more such straps are installed on the removable cover of the balloon compartment. The magazine for 40 bullets of the model is presented in the form of a special compartment, which is located on the right side of the case.

For a budget gas weapon, the Umarex SG9000 pneumatic shotgun has decent power. For example, most gas pistols in this price range have a bullet velocity at the exit of the barrel up to 120 m/s. The shotgun can be used effectively at a distance of up to 15 meters. If you move away from the target by 20-25 m, then the accuracy of the "fire" will drop sharply. From such a distance, you can only shoot at overall targets such as buckets. But from 10 meters, with the proper skills, you can aim at matchboxes. From this distance, a shotgun bullet goes right through a tin can and shatters a glass bottle.

Device

The body of the product consists of two parts and is made of plastic. At the same time, the Weaver bar and the barrel are made of metal, and there is a weighting agent inside the handle. For a comfortable grip, the handle has notches on both sides. The same notches are on the forearm, which, unlike real shotguns, is motionless. The total length of the rifle is 570 mm and the barrel is 280 mm. The weapon fires standard metal balls with a diameter of 4.5 mm. Its power is about 3 J. Due to the small range, it is not advisable to install an expensive optical sight on the model, a simple one with a magnification of up to 4 will be enough.

There is a fuse-regulator on the right side of the housing. It is a three position switch. The leftmost position is a fuse, the middle position is a single shot, the rightmost position is a burst. There is a shop on the same side. Charging is carried out directly inside, without taking out the container. To do this, pull the corresponding lever towards you and put it on the stopper.

The gas section is under the barrel, near the forend. By removing the cover, you can open access to it. The balloon is inserted into the hole and screwed into the thread. There are three Weaver bars on the lid.

Working principle

The shot is due to the energy, the source of which is a cylinder of compressed air. Before installation in a rifle, it is absolutely tight. And when placed on the workplace and twisting the balloon is pierced. A valve closes the air from leakage into the environment. When the trigger is pressed, the valve opens and pressurized air exits through the barrel, thereby pushing the bullet.

Thus, this device is called a shotgun only in appearance and the ability to shoot three bullets at the same time.

Dismantling

The pneumatic shotgun is disassembled in several stages:

  1. First removedthe cover of the gas-cylinder compartment and the cylinder is removed (if, of course, it was installed).
  2. The bolts are loosening on the right side of the case.
  3. The plug is removed from the fuse-switch.
  4. The screw that was hidden under the plug is being removed.
  5. The body splits into two halves.

Purpose

Obviously, the model is designed for training and recreational shooting from short distances. Like any other pneumatic weapon, the shotgun is not suitable for self-defense due to lack of power. It is impossible to cause serious harm with such a rifle, except if you do not get into the eyes.

Umarex SG9000 pneumatic shotgun: reviews

Based on the feedback from the owners, we highlight the main pros and cons of the model. The Umarex SG9000 pneumatic shotgun, which we are reviewing today, has the following advantages:

  1. Small price (relatively, of course). The model costs about $100.
  2. High bullet speed.
  3. Large balloon volume. No need to think that the gas will soon run out. If desired, you can put the adapter on two of the usual 12-gram cans.
  4. Single and triple shot capability.
  5. Viver rails, allowing you to equip the product with additional equipment (sight, flashlight, second handle, etc.).

Unfortunately, there are no flaws either:

  1. Small store volume. This problem is especially acute when firing triple charges. A gas cylinder that lasts at least 800 shots and a magazine for only 40 bullets is not the most successful tandem.
  2. Not very good plastic quality. The internals are metal and the build quality is pretty solid, by the way. But a good body would also not be superfluous. Moreover, cheap plastic from a distance of several meters gives out pneumatics in weapons.
  3. Lack of sights. In order to put a Umarex pneumatic scope on a shotgun, you first need to buy it.
  4. Tight trigger.

As for the low weight, it can be attributed to both pluses and minuses. On the one hand, light weapons are easier to transport and operate (shooting with one hand is quite real). On the other hand, by weight it is immediately clear that a copy is in the hands. In general, the second argument is rather controversial. Judge for yourself, when was the last time you saw a man with a real combat shotgun?

Homemade Air Shotgun

You can make something similar to an air gun at home. Now we will briefly analyze how to make an air shotgun. To make a simple gun, you need to prepare:

  1. Receiver - a vessel for accumulating gas.
  2. Two tubes. One has a length of about 15-20 cm, and the second - 60-80 cm.
  3. Shotgun handle.
  4. Water faucet.
  5. Sight.
  6. A metal plate up to 15 cm long.

The manufacturing process is quite simple. First you need to weld toreceiver with a short tube at an angle of approximately 30 degrees. The connection must be tight. The tube plays the role of a muzzle, and the receiver is located in place of the butt. Then a handle is welded from below, and a metal plate is welded from above, which imitates the Weaver bar. This completes the welding work. Next, a sight is attached to the plate, and a water tap is screwed to the muzzle, which will serve as a trigger. First, in a short tube, you need to make an external thread, and in a long one - an internal one. Or vice versa, it doesn't matter. Accordingly, their diameter must match the tap.

When the faucet is in place, you need to open it, pump air into the device using a pump or compressor and close it. Now the barrel is screwed into which the shells are inserted. To shoot, you need to aim and open the tap with your finger. That's all. You can shoot single bullets or shot. If desired, the rifle can be improved depending on your imagination and needs.

Conclusion

In general, this product causes conflicting emotions. It looks interesting and shoots quite powerfully, but you can only call it a shotgun based on its appearance. A serious disadvantage for many users will be the small capacity of the store. Although there are pistols in which it is many times smaller. For example, in the pneumatic version of the PM, the magazine holds less than 20 bullets, and they need to be inserted into a narrow groove, preloaded by a spring. Here you just need to pour bullets into the body of the weapon - andall. In general, this shotgun will suit fans of weapons of this shape.
