Modern farmers, engaged in subsistence farming, prefer to use breeds of universal orientation for breeding birds, providing the family with both meat and eggs in sufficient quantities. That is why breeding breeds of poultry, bred for this very purpose, have recently become popular. And today we’ll talk about two such types: about chickens of the Faverolle breed and the Kuchinsky breed of chickens.

Faverol chickens: description

Those who professionally breed poultry have long been familiar with the unique breed of firerolles, the so-called French breed of chickens.

The bird will not create any problems for you when breeding. As a rule, these are chickens with a balanced character, having rather large sizes and magnificent plumage. A distinctive feature of the appearance of the breed is a comb of a special shape, called leaf-shaped, and a beard of a fairly large size, located immediately below the beak.

Chicks grow quite quickly and take shape in adults, whilehave excellent meat qualities.

The bird has a calm, even rather phlegmatic disposition. This French chicken breed prefers to lead a sedentary lifestyle, which often leads to obesity. In this regard, feeding the bird should be limited.

Chickens of this breed are distinguished by increased egg production at any time of the year, so in winter you will also not be left without domestic eggs. This is due to the fact that the body of the bird is covered with fluffy plumage, so the chickens of the fireball breed do an excellent job of lowering the ambient temperature. And although the feathers in the tail are short, the paws of the bird also have lush plumage, which helps them not to freeze during the winter cold. Another striking difference between this breed of poultry is the presence of a fifth toe on the paw.

Faverol hens have extremely elegant plumage and look very unusual. At the same time, they can even differ in color, standing out favorably against the background of simple laying hens. The most common is salmon faverol. At the same time, the back, lumbar region and wings are covered with salmon-red feathers (hence the name). Much less common is the Colombian faverolle, which has an unusual silver feather color.

The rooster of this breed has a much brighter plumage than that of laying hens. Most often, the fireball rooster is a large black and white bird.

Content Features

A distinctive feature of the breed is the love of free movement, as chickens prefer to seek out their own food, looking for various insects in the soil and getting the minerals they need. In this regard, it is not necessary to constantly feed chickens with mineral supplements and synthetic vitamins.

Faverol hens like to take a leisurely exercise in open space, so it is undesirable to keep them together with other, more mobile and fussy breeds of poultry.

Keeping fireballs in cramped and covered enclosures can lead to an outbreak of disease, as the birds are quite sensitive to high humidity. And this is absolutely inevitable in cramped enclosures.

Organization of a perch

Since chickens are quite heavy and at the same time clumsy, it is not advisable to arrange a high perch. Birds will fall from it and get hurt. Perches for fireballs are best built low, round in shape and, ideally, equipped with ladders. Stairs are best made fairly wide, given birds' natural tendency to become obese.

Feeding fireballs

For catering, you should not install feeders on the ground, since faveroli, like chickens of other breeds, like to scatter food when climbing into feeders. That is why feeders should be hanging, but located so that it is convenient for chickens to get food.

When planning the composition of the diet of the Faverolle chicken, the poultry breeder must first of all take into account the tendency of birds of this breed to overeat and, as a result, obesity. Therefore, it is especially necessary to strictly observe the norms of feeding, andalso choose non-caloric ingredients for the diet.

Dwarf firerolls

German breeders, in order to increase the egg production of the breed, bred an improved bird from this point of view - a dwarf faverol. These chickens are quite small. The weight of the bird does not even reach a kilogram, but at the same time they carry eggs much more actively than ordinary fireballs. Due to their small size, dwarf firerolls are used primarily for laying eggs, and not as a meat breed.

Breeding firerolls

The breed is not considered rare, but in its pure form, birds can be found infrequently. The reason for this is the insufficiently high egg production of chickens of this breed, while its meat properties are recognized as of sufficiently high quality.

Some subtleties

For breeding, they buy several hens from one seller and a cockerel from another. Poultry specialists do not recommend buying young animals from the same family, since various deformities have been observed in the offspring during closely related crossing.

Starting from the age of six months, hens, as a rule, begin to lay. Eggs should be laid in an incubator before the hatching process begins. The temperature of the incubator is kept constant. It is not recommended to store eggs for more than two weeks, and it is best to take fresh ones for incubation.

Chickens of this breed have one significant drawback - they have practically lost the instinct of incubation, so the use of an industrial incubator for breeding chickens will be preferable, because in this caseyou can not be afraid that they will be thrown by the hen in the middle or at the end of the hatching process.

Faverol chicks hatch almost simultaneously. After that, they need to provide a dry room and a constant temperature. Young animals are fed with corn porridge and chopped eggs. Then gradually transfer to specialized feed and free range.

Jubilee Kuchinsky chickens

Unlike the French fireballs, modern Kuchinsky chickens are the product of domestic breeders and bred not so long ago.

Description of the breed

Kuchinsky breed of chickens is quite different from ordinary pied. A huge external difference exists between chickens and a rooster.

Rooster has a small head. The comb is clearly divided into five teeth. The bird is distinguished by a strong beak, plumage adjacent to the body and muscular paws.

In chickens, the comb is also divided into five teeth, but its height is relatively small. By color, chickens of the Kuchinsky breed are divided into two types: double outlined and bordered.

This poultry has a number of advantages. First of all, they are quite unpretentious in terms of living conditions: they feel great both in small yards and in large factories. When changing the place of detention, as a rule, chickens behave positively. Chickens gain weight quickly enough.

In chickens, one day after birth, you can easily determine the sex. In addition, the hatchability of chickens from eggs is quite high.

Along with the benefits of this birdThe breed also has its drawbacks. And this is a tendency to be overweight, especially in the second year of life. At the same time, egg production of chickens is deteriorating.

Breeding

Kuchinsky breed of chickens today is bred without any problems, as it is quite common in Russia. To do this, it is enough to purchase young hens, adults or just fresh eggs.

Little chicks need to be warm at first, so they need to be kept warm and comfortable in a light and dry environment. The nutrition of babies should be organized based on their needs: chickens are fed about 9 times a day, taking a night break for 6 hours. Later, the young are fed at intervals of three hours. With an ideal management, food for small chickens should be constantly present in the feeders. At the same time, you should strictly monitor that it does not deteriorate, replacing it with a fresh one in a timely manner.

Managing adult chickens

Kuchinsky breed of chickens is unpretentious in feeding, so its nutrition is not much different from the diet of any other poultry.

Initially, little chickens are fed semolina. Gradually, as they grow older, they begin to add chopped greens, protein supplements and root crops to the diet. Chickens grow fast enough, especially if all maintenance recommendations are followed.

Adults are fed with various grain feeds, adding the necessary additives to them to increase the productivity of the bird. It is also worth remembering the observance of the drinking regime: watershould be constantly fresh and in easily accessible feeders.

Maintenance and Care

Organization of accommodation and care of the Kuchinsky breed of chickens does not require special training. The bird is perfectly adapted to any changes in the weather, so wintering passes without problems.

Kuchinsky chickens are a calm and non-aggressive breed, if we talk about their attitude towards humans, but they will not tolerate alien birds on their territory.

In this regard, poultry farmers recommend for Kuchinsky chickens to allocate a separate room for keeping and at the same time maintain a constant contingent of birds, without planting newcomers to them.

The bird of this breed feels equally comfortable both free-range and caged. There is an opinion that the content of chickens of this breed in cages is much more preferable, since it allows you to control the amount of food intake, which is especially true for this overweight breed. In addition, in a confined space, the risk of developing diseases is reduced, since the bird does not intersect with representatives of other species.

Both firerolles and Kuchin breeds are equally popular with poultry farmers. It is also worth adding that these are the best meat breeds of chickens. But still, among domestic farmers, Kuchin chickens are more popular due to their adaptation to the climatic conditions of our country. In addition, this breed is much less demanding on the organization of maintenance and feels great in cages. Whereas the fireballs, who love open space, categorically do not recognize this type of pastime.
